I have a North Face Nebula tent that I purchased new in 1996. The tent has been use a lot for the last ten years. Mostly MotoCamping but also some backpacking and campouts with the kids. The tent has been great never leaked a drop of water even in hardest of rainstorms. I always clean my tent and fly after each use and I feel that is why it has lasted as long as it has. Well the last time I cleaned it I notice that the fly would seep a little water when I sprayed it down. It was not a big leak but it was a leak. North Face makes a great product and has a limited lifetime guarantee. So I gave them a call to see what they would do for my 10-year old tent and me.

I talked to a real nice person and was told to mail them the fly to see if it could be repaired. I told them I was not trying to get something for nothing because the tent has done more than any tent should. They inform me if it could not be repaired do to misuse or normal wear and tear they would sell me a new fly at 50% off. So the next day I ship the fly to them. A week later I call them to see what the verdict was. The nice lady on the phone told me that they tested the fly and it did leak and new one was shipped. They never asked for any money and the new fly arrived yesterday. How cool is that. Here to the next 10 years.

One more thing, I asked them if I could have the North Face patch off my old fly for a keepsake if it was not repairable and they shipped it backed with the new fly. It is now hung on my Alaska picture I keep in my office.

Long story but just wanted to give North Face some credit for a job well done!

Thanks, Trailace. Sometimes we're too quick to complain and too slow to compliment. Really good information to have!

Excellent story! You don't work for them do you??? You should!
I've never been one to go for the name brand stuff, always buy the less expensive version and sometimes I come out OK. Sometimes not.
Last Spring I ran across a demo North Face Rock 22, a 2 man tent. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. OK, cut to the chase. It's a VERY good tent. Ventilation suffers a bit during a hard rain when you need to close up the fly. But it's very durable and absolutely won't leak. I expect to use this tent for many many years.
Another happy consumer.
