Today while talking with friends up at the Lookout on Ortega Hwy I noticed a small crowd of friends had gathered around the back of my bike. My friend George called me over and asked me to take a look. He asked me to tell him what was wrong with this picture.

DAMN!!! Checked the air pressure first, 42 psi, thats good. Got out the tool kit and slowly pushed it out the way it came in with a pair of needle nose plyers, NO LEAK!!! Looks as though the cords deflected it out the side wall. What a GREAT!!! tire. In the 2nd picture you can see its whats left of a pair of sissors that the front tire must have kicked up and broke off in the rear tire.

I've been getting GREAT milage off these Metzelers. The tire in the picture has a little over 11,500 miles it. Last set went just over 15,000. The front still had a couple thousand miles left but I replaced them both at the same time.

Think i'll stay with Metzeler's for awhile.:D

The best for me is around 10,000 miles.

Good Lord, man, you got lucky with that one .....I'm happy that it worked out for you. I hope if I catch something like that, I can have the same kind of luck .....

You think those tires would look good on the ST? :p I could have used them when me and George Catt rode 15 miles of dirt/gravel roads in Eureka Springs.

Well... you've already made the discovery, Number 9, but anytime you ride with George you stand a chance of off roading. I suspect somebody told him his ST was a dual-sport and he's just always believed it. :p

Yeah... I watched Jason handle his bike in AR... And I've followed George around AZ.
I'll follow either of them any day...

Don't know if I'll be happy on some of the roads though... :-)

Nails and tire seem to follow me around.

This SV650 Suzuki has a problem. Its still holding air after his ride up Ortega Hwy. to the Lookout last Sunday. To make things worse the owner said the tire was new and mounted the night before.

This one I'd say is throw away.

I don't trust sidewall damage, I have plugged one front tire with a slice in the sidewall (took 4 rope plugs), just to putt up the road 8 miles to home to keep from having to load up the bike on the truck.

Holding air right now... but, for how long?
The head of the nail is going to get banged around every time he turns left (look like a rear tire) and that means the tip might start gouging his rim...

I would have pulled it and put in gummy worms as soon as I found it.

And even though I will ride (and let Chris) ride a gummy wormed tire in the meat of the tire: I would replace one with side wall damage asap.

Note to self: Be extra careful if riding where Keith might be riding.

Keep Keith in front to pick up all the nails for us.

Since my last posting I had a flat in the rear, supprise supprise. It did give me a chance to use the Stop & Go plug gun kit i've always carried with me, worked GREAT! Only problem is you need air to make it all work. About 2 years ago I bought one of those Airman pumps from Aerostich. But it was so big (IMO) that I put it aside and forgot about it.

The other day I came upon it and decided to do some modifications. I split it open and remover the pump and discarded the case.

Snipped off the switch and souldered on another plug. Shortened the wire up figuring I didn't need a 15 foot cord. The fill tube with regulator I shortend 2" using a double barbed connector and some safety wire. This was shortened just so it would all fit in the bag with the pump and power cord.

As you can see from the picture it takes up a lot less room and still works great and is there when I need it. Hopefully i'll never need it, :D Yea, right.:D
