What kind of tire can I buy that I can get some long miles. I bought a ME880 for front and rear, (I have had good luck with them in the past)on other bikes. I could not get the front to work.(could not balance) So I put a Dunlap 251 on it.That was what came on it. The first Dunlap250 got 12,500 on it. This one 8000.(not happy). The ME880 on the rear is just about shot too...... I put 21,000 miles on the wing so far this summer so you can see what a problem it is.
Has anyone had good luck with any brand of bike tire?( Long Mileage)that is?

Gary I'm thinking of trying the Dunlop Elite 3 when I've worn out the rear on mine. I've always run Avons and liked them for their wet weather performance and light feel. They just don't last as long for me as other tires though. I have read some good reviews of the Dunlop Elite 3, with some people getting as much as 15,000 miles out of a rear tire. YMMV
I'm thinking George has one on the rear of Deb's bike, he might be able to give ya some insight on these.

Thanks Steve, The Dunlop 250 didn't do me much good, On the front. I was going to try Avon on the wing next. ME880 worked great on my Kawasaki, not on the wing. How about Stones709, I think that was what someone mentioned?

For some reason, the 1800s don't get a lot of tire life.
I use the (Bias Ply) Dunlop E3s on my 1500 and presently have 37,316km/23,188mi on my rear tire(small amount of cupping) and presently have 29,590km/18,387mi on the front.(no cupping/scalloping)
I run the front tire @ 41 PSI and the rear @ 44 PSI
Here's a shot of my rear tire, with 30,665km/19,055mi on it, while I was installing a trailer wiring harness.

Hoo, boy. Good Mileage is obviously relative.
When I put the Avon Storm II Ultras on the Connie, I was hoping to make 7500mi. I think right now that I am going to get a little better than that. These are serious good handling (wet included) tires....
I'm thinking I'm going to get 15,000 out of the BattleWings on the V STrom. The original trail wings hit 15,000.
No where near as much 'right hand' pressure on the Vee as on the Connie:)

I thought I was doing good with 11,000 on a set of Avon's on my DR. I'm more used to 4500 with a set of knobbie type of tire.

WOW, 23,188 out of a rear tire! I need to try a set of these for sure, as about 10,000 is the best I get out of Avon Venoms on the rear. The front that's on there now has close to 20,000 on it now.

I use ME 880's on my Wing. I typically get 25K+ out of the fronts and 15-18 on the rear. Most of my mileage is 2 up with a trailer in tow. Metzler rep told me to run 46 pounds of pressure in them to keep cupping down and it seems to work for me.

I second the "car tire" idea; my riding buddy installed one approx. 12,000 miles ago, and it's still as fresh as the day he spooned it on there. He tells me that the handling wasn't adversely affected; his riding is mostly long, straight and flat. We are in Florida after all. :) But the tire does remarkably well in the mountains of north GA / southern TN as well.
Overall, he's quite pleased with his choice. Now if only I could find one to fit the ST1300 .... P^

I've used Bridgestones on my 1800 and they have been the best for me. Fronts are good for about 17-18k for me. The rear is about 15k or an imbedded object, whichever comes first.
I have gone to the darkside on the rear with a Kumho 195/55RF16 which has around 10k on it 2up and pulling an Escapade trailer and it appears to be good for another 10k at least.
I ran a Dunlop on the rear and it lasted 16k until it took a nail that wasn't fixable. Prior to the Dunlop, I only got 11k out of an E3.

I'm on my fourth Pirelli 195-55/16 RF. They have all run well, and change them around 16 to 19 thousand miles. Ran Dunlop E-3s before the change. Liked the 70 on the rear, they didn't squirm around, did OK on pavement snakes, and did fine in the rain.
I use either Metzeler ME 880 or Dunlop E-3 on the front wheel. They both work great with the Pirelli.
