Hi all!
I've got a reservation at Griffin Park (13 miles west of Grants Pass) for the holiday weekend and I'm looking for route suggestions to get me down there this Saturday.
Bolting down I-5 is pretty un-interesting and I've seen my fair share of 101.
On the ST, I'm not too good with gravel so known, paved roads are strongly preferred.
Got any suggestions for something between I -5 and the coast? I guess east of I-5 isn't out of the question either.
Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Sorry i didnt see the question posted earlier; Southern Oregon is my 'ol stomping grounds. i know Griffin park, Indian Mary, as well as a bunch of free sites as well.. i know that whole area pretty well, living there for 22 years.
i would have recommended lots of hwy 1. While I5 is very nice south of Eugene, it is flat and brown and boring north of there.
Depending on the number of days you have; one could cut back and forth between I5 and the coast several times; zig-zagging your way down and then again on the way back up.
There are lots of options really, but my first would'a prolly been: south hwy 1, leave hwy 1, going over to I5 via the Smith river rd ( this is not a hwy, it is a twistie BLM road,#,36). Then South I5, with side-loops / overnighters at various points, including: 1) Riddle to Glendale on Cow Crk rd; and/or; 2) South Umpqua Falls via Canyonville, Days Crk, Tiller, Trail and Shady Cove (the falls, and a slide-rock area and camping, are 5-7 miles behind Tiller, if memory serves); and/or; 3) at Wolf creek, take the back-way to Galice; and/or; 4) if you like it really twistie, go up Taylor crk rd, which is close to Galice Or. (more on Taylor crk: It is a blm road, and there is more than one way in and out, dropping you onto the Redwood hwy (hwy 199) between Grants Pass and the coast..... The whole area up around Galice is very nice, but i would ride up Taylor crk to the top, and then turn around and ride back down, simply to ride some of my favorite road and see some SWEET crk frontage.
gimme points for trying.... Better late than never; i'm hoping ............

Hey JimBo,
i'm in Colorado at moment, so can't give firm dates, But i'm hoping,to leave Santa Barbara, heading north, in 2 weeks or less.
Route will depend on when i make it out the door , as i wanna be in Portland on a particular date. If i can't hit someplace special whislt going north i'll do my best to do it on the southern trek
Why do you ask?? Are you considering a tour / trip??
