I have been following this site for some time. The members are just great. I am new to riding a motorized two wheeler. I am an experianced Camper. I really appreciate the way all the site members assist one another. I am planning to take several trips this year. The first a shakedown this weekend to see if I have everything and what to leave behind on longer trips. Let you know how it works out.

I am riding a 2006 Burgman 400. When I was about 16 a neighbor offered to sell me an Indian Motorcycle for $100. My dad wouldn't let me buy it. One day I told someone about it and my wife overheard. She then tried to find an Indian for me for Christmas. Sticker shock set in and she suggested that I buy my own. As I said I had never ridden a motorized two wheeler. I liked the scooter look but decided if I got one it had to be big enough to ride the superslab to work. I found the 400 and fell in love with riding. I already liked camping so the perfect match. Oh by the way my wife refuses to set foot on the two-wheeler.

Welcome Don,
$100 Indian, that would have been something, but Dad probably knew best.
What campgrounds are you thinking about riding the Bergman too? Please send pics of it "loaded" up with your camping gear.

You need to remember that was a Loooong time ago. It was in an old canning factory just sitting there getting older. The same neighbor was a licensed flight instructor and offered to give me lessons if I paid for the gas in his airplane. Again dad said no.
This weekend I plan on staying close to home so I will probably go to Turkey Run SP are Hardin Ridge in the Hoosier NF. (spent 2 Weeks there several years ago.) If everything goes well I will make a trip into KY and camp out near the Natural Bridges SE of Lexington. I figure about a week for that trip. Before the year is out I want to see the Tetons. I figure 4 to 6 weeks for that trip. I am retired and so will not be pushing it. If I see something interesting I'm going to stop and explore.
I'll send pic's when I get back.
Should be an interesting summer.

Well IndyDon....it is good to hear from you and like so many have already said welcome. You will find these folks really special when you get to meet them personally and unlike many other forums....polite, helpful and down right good to one another via the written word. We have another member who has a Burgman, he is from the Charolette NC area....(sorry his "handle" slips me at the moment) he pulls a small trailer with his. Really nice set up. One other thing...it is good to see someone else who is close to my age...I was beginning to think that I was the only one around here that hold the patent for "dirt". Welcome aboard...ride safe and have a good time! P^

I noticed that some talked about you knowing Moses. Hey wasn't it fun before he got those laws? I look forward to meeting in person some of these folks. They seem to be a really good bunch.

For longer distance you may want to move up to a 650 or if you really like scooter look the ST1300.
Course that also sounds like a jetson's car sitting at a light LOL
Welcome and enjoy the site

I am pretty happy with the 400 right now. It has enough power to move me down the road. I am not planning on setting any speed records. Just want to enjoy the trip. Of course I want to enjoy the area when I get there. Plan on taking lots of Pictures. We will see when I get back from my week long ride. I have already been to Turkey Run round trip in one day with time to play was no problem.

I was told there was another Burgman owner on the site but they couldn't remember who exactly it was. Great to meet you.
I plan on taking a trip that long later this year. Not as fast though. I also like to take pictures when I travel. Just kind of enjoy the ride and take my time.
This was my first time camping off the Burgman. There will be some changes for the next trip. Overall I was pretty pleased with how things went.
Where did you go on your trip. How do you pack your Burgman. Do you go solo or two up? I am assuming you used the 650 for your trip.

Don, GroundHog also rides and pulls a trailer with his Burgman. I met him at the Chill Out last month and he is a great guy!
He has some stylish footware too! :p

I did take the 650, but had it not been ready, i would have taken the 400.
I put my tent, matress, air pump, tarp, and few tools under the seat. Then clothes in the saddle bags. My top box carried my spare fuel, rain gear, air compressor, few tools, towels, lemon pledge, and some stuff i forgot. I put my sleeping fleece, pillow, and extra blanket in a dry sack and placed it behind my 24can cooler on the passenger seat. My cooler has some extra pockets, i put my camera in, and other odds n ends. I put flash light, zip ties, eztra gloves, knife, and stuff in the two front compartments. A couple days before the trip i added a 2nd 12v socket in the dAsh to power my gps, and phone. Worked really really well. Check my blog for some pics.

Put me down for two pair in 10.5! :D
I've heard they are some of the most comfy shoes you can buy, but I haven't tried any yet. P^

Sticker shock is right! My 45 ci scout seems to get me around all right but parts are not cheap so no stunt riding with her. I can take her on the slab but would rather ride the back roads with her instead, more interesting things to see. You don't need a big bike to enjoy motorcycle camping. If it's got two wheels it'll work just fine.

Hey now, lets not rule out three wheels.

And be careful at Natural Bridge. The last time we were there, around 1980, we stumbled on a photo shoot for Penthouse Magazine. :takepics2:
The wife wasn't as happy about that as I was.

If you added a ski under that front wheel you might have something interesting. Maybe call it a snowsomething or other!!! :D I can see what you mean. The trip to KY has been put off a little while. Picked up some time with the Census to put some money in the travel account. Should be done by Mid- August so may do the trips in reverse and do WY first and a fall trip to KY. I'll take my camera along.
Thanks for the warning.
