Very nice. I have something similar that I built for my bike as well.

Man, that's nice. Now can you build a trailer that can haul Kirby behind the Wee?:D

What ??? Change of plans?
I thought Ernie wanted me to make luggage racks for your Urals ... :)

G wizz

Hey, George
I'm just teasing you.:D
As far as the racks, I'm still trying to figure out exactly want we need for the Urals. I don't want to rush it and have you waste your precious time making something that just doesn't work. Hope to have the plans drawn up and e-mail to you.:)

Just finished building a rack that slides into the trailer hitch recever on my bike.
Gives me a little extra carrying capacity when traveling without the trailers.

Though you folks would like to take a look at it.

G wizz

hey oh great wise man who looks incredibly young (was that enough butt kissing ) how much $$$$ would it take to make one of those for me?

it looks great

I was going to make one but your skill level is about 5 times better than mine

I might also be interested in one. Let me know how much it would cost to build one and ship it to 54730.

Hey George,

Looks like you found a job after all. Good luck with your new business.

dos the extra weight all the way back like that make you headlight and front tire a bit lighter ?

I really like this idea ...
Just wondering what type of hitch you put on your bike? and how difficult to install?

Makes alot of sense and you can really increase your carrying capacity. Great spot for yout tent and chair, this way you can have a tent that is of decent size.

I was thinking of that myself: most of what I need to carry extra is bulky, so a monowheel wagon will be a better option. Haven't built the hitch yet, so I'm designing a way to pull the universal joint bracket up tight, so it doesn't wiggle or rattle.
I'm open to any ideas on this - giant butterfly nut comes to mind, but would look like crap. Just bolting it to a plate is probably best, using nylock nuts, but a bit of trouble. At least I wouldn't need a chain.

After a search tonight for hours, I couldn't find any u-joints with a plate attached. Closest thing to a bolt-up unit would be steering universals - I'd have to remove the rag and mount it rigid, figuring out some way to use the clamp tubes. And they might not be strong enough.

I think the weight and heft of a car universal is overkill - one from a metric bike driveshaft would be better, IMO.
The "rag" in a steering universal is the rubber/fabric pad in the center. I think those are used to remove engine vibration from the shaft.
I'm trying now to find out if there is a set of axle mounts for my bike. I'd rather go that way, and wouldn't need a universal then.

I have a rack that a friend built for me that slides into my receiver hitch.
I'm not talented enough to build one myself!
I use the ice chest for my wife's luggage. It's light, waterproof, and can actually use it for an ice chest if we choose to.

Ha! I love bein' a cheap bastid...well, I'm outta work...I studied the axle mounts and got to thinkin' - why not drill and tap the axle and make my own? So fired up the CAD and designed it from their idea - no big thing, really. Just have to have some bushings turned the right sizes:

edit: aaack. Checked the axle and the nut end will have to be redesigned - it's not large enough to drill and tap for a large enough bolt, so I'll have to make it a screw-on attachment, but still doable. So I added the nut end mod.

I have a receiver rack that mounts on my Bunkhouse to carry the cooler then will detach from the trailer to use on the bike. Just remove the receiver ball and replace with the rack. Allows us to set up the camper and then drive off with the cooler to get supplies!!

That's a great idea. Can you post a photo of the triler mount?

We did something like that a few years ago when riding with friends in an area where gas stops may have been a bit far for my old bike. It held a gallon gas can (or small cooler) and worked very well. So well that another friend borrowed it for his trip. Then he loaned to another person for their trip and we never saw it.......

Was really quite simple. Used 4 pieces of angle iron that got welded to the trailer tounge. Place the carrier on the tounge to find proper placement and then welded to tounge. Drilled holds into angle iron and used 9/16 bolt and nuts to secure. Works like a charm!

Hope this gives you guys ideas.

On the H/F trailer it mounted a bit differently. I used the angle iron to create a "upside down "L" that the edge of the carrier locked into and then had two other angle iron pieces that had the 9/16 nut and bolt.

I put this together to carry a duffle bag of stuff, or the tent and two chairs. A couple of quick and cheap deflectors to keep off the heat.

hey mike my idea although I haven't done it yet is to weld a couple spacers to the trailer tongue then weld a square steel tube (same size as receiver) about 2 inches long to the spacers
the tube will have a hole drilled through it for the pin
also i want to find a couple thick rubber washers/bumpers that i can run a sheet metal screw through and into the trailer tongue
this way allows me to remove the pin slide it off the trailer and right into the receiver on the bike the rubber washers stop any banging around back there and support the basket so you can even store things in the cooler or just on the rack while riding down the road
now if i confused everyone with my long dissertation i can draw and scan them to picassa or somewhere
