Since I had business to tend to while I was in Washington, I didn’t get out of there until mid-afternoon. I wanted to knock off as much of the trip home as I could, so just about the time it was getting dark I came to a little part of the world called Bracey, Virginia. Here lies a most serene RV/mobile home park with a fair number of sites for tents. Some of them are located right on Lake Gaston (reservations req’d) and are quite beautiful. It is called Americamp.
The place is rather large and seems to accommodate a significant number of permanent residents. That said, motorcycles are welcome and the sites for tents are the prettiest ones out there. A most accommodating husband and wife team run the place. I came in after hours and they went out of their way to help get me set up. They even opened up the store so I could buy a bundle of firewood.
Like I said, this is a big place, like a little city. There are pools, playgrounds and a church. It’s about 5 miles off of Interstate 85 so it’s perfectly quiet at night. The gate closes at 10PM and the place goes simply quiet. Waking up to the sun coming up over the lake and the chirping of the birds is something that I will not soon forget. Bath houses are clean, spacious and heated. Wifi worked great. Would not hesitate to go back.
