I came across an old Camelback Thermobak the other day that one of the kids left behind. My wife was getting ready for a yard sale, so we were cleaning closets.

Yesterday, getting ready for a ride on a 90 degree day, I was whining about not having a cup holder installed on the new Goldwing. I happened to see it laying on the reloading bench and decided to give it a try.

First I bleached it for an hour or so, then rinsed it well and filled it with ice cubes and water. You wear it as a backpack. I put it on over my jacket, with the tube over my shoulder and secured to the front strap.

It worked great! I was out just over three hours and still had cold water when I got home. As an added bonus, it felt like my backrest had turned into a gel pad. http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/images/emoticons/smile.gif

One word of advice. If you rinse it out with a bleach solution and are very careful about rinsing it a couple times in fresh water, remember to flush out the hose and mouthpiece. Blech!

This is mine,

but they make all kinds and sizes. http://camelbak.com/sports-recreation/hydration-packs.aspx (http://camelbak.com/sports-recreation/hydration-packs.aspx)

Now I don't need a cup holder until it gets cold enough for coffee.http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/images/emoticons/wink.gif

Good deal, I have been using a 70 ounce camelback for years when riding. Its one of the easiest ways to keep hydrated while riding.

I never knew how dehydrated you can get when riding and not drinking enough water along the way, which is easy for me to do when I am traveling. I used to only drink something at the station when I stopped for fuel. Now I can sip water as I need to along the ride with no problems. You can go through 70 ounces of water in a hurry during the hot months or when riding in dry climates. On my ride out west last year it was easy to drink two refills a day. I was amazed how much better I felt when taking sips or water all day long. I am sure it helped keep me more alert and less tired at the end of a long days ride.

Camelback even sells some flavor packs you can add to the water to make it a bit more tasty.

Its getting hot out there folks drink plenty of water on your rides....

A mixture of bleach and water will clean it out too.. I store mine empty in the freezer so it won't mold.

This post is so relevant for me. After a trip to the Chillout I had made up my mind that I needed to buy one of these...especially after seeing Joe and Rick's. Since that time I've looked at a couple of different brands including the Coleman. It doesn't have the large cap like the Kamelbak but rather the top of the bladder opens for cleaning. It is large enough for one to put their hand inside of it. To close it, you roll the top of the bladder like a "dry bag" and a plastic clip slides into place. Has anyone had experience with the Coleman Brand?

I bought a Cabelas on Memorial Day sale for $20. It looks just like the Camelbak (70 oz.). After riding to Campstoc with STeve, I am sold on the use of one to constantly hydrate.

During the summer I wear one (WalMart brand) when doing solo rides. It works very well for me.

This forum is gonna break me...bought another "needed" camping item! I bought a camelbak,70 oz. at GanderMountain and pressed it into immediate action! 2 hour ride home from store. The cold water I put into it without ice was still cool when i got home. It made the trip home very pleasant on a hot afternoon.
