When ever I get the bike packed, the Mrs seems to find more stuff 'hiding' somewhere!

I think I'd find a place for more wine. My girlfriend, on the other hand, wanted to bring home some "rocks" she found on our camping trip last weekend. There were several of them, each about the size of a personal pizza. She's still upset that I said no...

I think you both need trailers. P^

I have not found pizza sized rocks, but many 'interesting pebbles' when it has come to unpacking later - they sure weighed a lot when put all together!
Reminds me a bit like those dogs you see carrying a 'stick' that actually looks like a fair sized branch

Well, funny I just saw this post. The wife and I are going for a over night and were not camping. Honestly, I don't know how you guys do it? I like to bring some cleaning supplies that takes up a qtr of my one saddle bag. I always cover my bike at night, that takes up the balance of that bag unless I strap that to the trunk rack. Rain gear, that another third of one saddle bag. Then you have two helmuts, one bag of cloths(his & hers), Then jackets to warm to wear when riding. Where the heck do you put all this stuff? Now, solo riding no problem, I could even get a tent, sleeping bag and all the the stuff I need. You add that extra person and I'm lost? I'm I missing something?

Sounds to me like you need to get a "Rat Dresser" so you can leave the "Show Pony" in the barn! :p
That way you can strap dry bags on top of the saddlebags without fear of marring them. Tell the little woman she will have to cut down on the amount of clothes she takes. Two bags of clothes for a weekend trip? If you are worried about someone stealing your helmets just lock them with a steel cable around something on the bike.
As far as the cleaning supplies, each to their own, but I refuse to own a bike that I can't ride 800 or so miles a day in the rain and then leave uncovered. I understand you have a "custom" bike, but if you are going to do distance you'll have to make sacrifices.
Hopefully you can get that ST1300, they don't seem to get too dirty. Mellow's looked pretty clean when he got to the Chill Out with Trailace! P^

Clean is a relative term when it comes to Adventure Tourers. ;)
My bike was the cleanest it's been in quite a while when I got to the Chill Out and I haven't washed it in over a year. Dang rain. :D

POint well taken, that is why I'm looking into another bike. I love to ride, we just got back from our "hotel" over night and it was nice. We stopped and went through a State Park, Mississippi Palisaides. Brought back some great memories, funny it was mostly tent campers also. I also met a few HD tour riders and told them about the site, maybe they'll be come members. Anyway...got off track, the "Ultra" is kind of a show pony as someone put it and I like my stuff nice. The ST1300 would have less chrome and it would be more of my touring bike. Also, guy no feeling hurt, I appreciate your imput.

Hope I didn't step on any toes by accident. I was trying to comment on Rick's comment, but sometimes flub up what I meant. :o
We pseudo dirt bike riders can make a can of polish last several years was what I was getting at. I guess cleaning isn't really our thing. :D
Good luck with what ever you want to ride, after all, it's about riding. Well, and camping too. P^
Take care, Guy

I couldn't see it after I rode behind Joe's bike. When he hit the brakes his brake light was so bright it scared me! :p
Your bike was clean too, I was just too busy checking out your new tires! :D

That sport-tourer will grow on you Bigdog! I bought my Concours from a friend at work and was at first a little down I didn't get a Harley or at least a Japanese v-twin but now I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world except another sport-tourer. I am learning how to bike camp also and am in a real challenge with my G/F who is a self described "girly-girl" so it will be very interesting to get her to pare things down a bit. Lol!

I like my chrome queen to look good but let her go a bit when camping, since sometimes we have to ride in on dirt. If you HAVE to clean it, put a couple microfiber rags in a sandwich bag, and get one of the tiny fifty-cent spray bottles from Wally World. Spray a few ounces of Pledge into it and you're good for a week.
YES, PLEDGE! It's the cheapest and best quickwax out there and works on the seats, leather bags and everything, even cleans the bugs off the windshields.

Chiming in late but I couldn't resist. My wife insists on bringing high heel shoes with her no matter what the reason for the trip. Man, those things take up some room. When I get her to actually camp, I'm going to let her bring them, then insist she wears them. Her 6 inch stiletto heels should do well in a cypress swamp.
On the cleaning discussion, I bring a small bottle of spray wax and a microfiber cloth. I use it to clean the front/windshield of the bike and my face shield of the helmet. Damn lovebugs. Florida!!!

When you said cleaning, I thought a bar of soap and a towel was all you needed. Then I realised you were talking about your bike. Then I wondered who cleans their bike? :D  P^

They do grow on you; we've been touring on a Honda ST1300 for three years now, and don't miss the huge packing capability we had on the two Goldwings we owned...... although I admit we just purchased and are going to try out an Aspen Sentry. The idea is to tow it like a truck to someplace cool (the Blackhills, Beartooth, etc), set it up, and then ride the ST like you're supposed to ride it! Hard!
Here's my lovely Red and our bike all decked out for a six-weeker, two years ago......

I bet they were headed for the bathroom as 'decorations'.

That is what we do with the big cargo trailer.
We haul it to a "Base camp" then ride the roads in the area(200 mile radius+/-). When those roads are ridden then pack up and move to a new "Base Camp" for the next few days.
