Ok, I've got my Honey squared away with enough room for her stuff in our trailer, we're able to take everything but the kitchen sink. However, we have a miniture daschund that started to camp with us when we take the four wheeler instead of the bike. Usually my parents watch him but ya know how those little yappy dogs can be. So on to my question, has anyone ever fabbed a pooch pack for their bike? I've seen one online at t-bags, but I son't think it will be long enough for my pup, any suggestions?

Hi Ya vannooch,
A sidecar seems to be a popular option. And one guy here has a harness that looks kinda like a baby carrier he wears on his chest to carry his dog.

A friend has a tank bag with a towel folded as a mattress and an opening in the top for his mini doberman.
Another took the lid off of the tourbox on the back and the dog sits in it.
Or you could teach him to do this;

I can see buddy on point standing on the fairing! ole needle nose! Ha!! that's funny
I've considered the tank bag thing, I've even considered using the cooler on the tongue of the trailer, but I think I would gas him out. Didn't know if one of the members had a great brainstorm of an idea for puppy packin.

We carried our various chihuahua's in pet carriers mounted on the cooler on the tongue of the trailer. We didn't travel in extreme weather conditions (too hot or too cold or too wet). We provided comfy accommodations.

Or you can try making one out of a backpack and wear it turned around.

I'd be weary of strapping the dog to yourself. In the event of an off, it would probably turn out bad for both of you. A pet carrier strapped on to the bike with a good blanket inside is probably the safest way to go, as long as the little guy doesn't get scared in it. If he's the type to hang his head out the car window, he'll probably be fine.

He's usually ok in the car, and he does like to sniff the smells out the window. I'm just concerned with having him right behind the exhaust pipes, I don't want to kill the little bugger, he'd be getting both barrells. Mounting something on the cooler or the trailer would be perfect, I may just try to build a little something that will mount to the rear rack, I saw that sears had motorcycle tail trunks on sale, maybe buy two one for haulin and modify one for the pupster.

Ya I considered the T-bags carrier, however my little guy is a weiner dog....I need a bun sized one. I believe the t-bags carrier is only 18 inches in legnth and nine inches wide, the boy won't be able to move in there. Sure it's 12 inches high, but Buddy is vertically challenged...ya know long low-to-d-ground dog... I was considering a Shad 50 liter tail box for my Concours, and thought maybe I could fab a lid latch that would actually latch and hold the lid open a little all in one.

Nice, But now I have Duke of Earl stuck in my head!:lol2 I supppose I'll have to pick up a second saddle bag for a conversion. I'll have to see if he'll fit, again he's loooooong 24-25 inches.

If you are a DIY kind of guy, design a custom cage type carrier out of 1/2" PVC
Schedule 40 plumbing pipe and fittings. As all knows, the stuff is cheap, strong, easy and fun to work with. I'm presently building handbar rack, luggage rack, and saddle bag
frames now for my Honda 230 dirtbike, a doggy carrier ought to be a cake walk.
Depending on your bikes present setup you can design a cage to strap or bolt behind
your seat or possibly even forward of and attached to handlebars in some way.
Just let your imagination take over and think sturdy and safety and obviously the best mount location.

Great idea, I was thinking of doing something like that, only using a top case. I want a Shad 50 liter for my bike, when my wife and I were on our honeymoon tour of the New England states P^, we found ourselves carrying our helmets everywhere and desired a place to lock them up out of the rain. The Shad 50 would solve that problem, however I was thinking of fabricating a clip to extend the latch to kind of lock it open. That way I could use one case for both purposes, or modify a cheaper topcase to secure to the Shad mount for my dog when he goes with us. I can always just call Mom to watch him, but we take him campin when we're not on the bike and he like it.

A cheaper case, the right dimensions for a dachshund would be better than a pvc cage as far as safety (flying debris, gravel, etc) and constant wind blowing.
Cut a hole in the top of the case just the right size for his head to stick out. Get a little bit crazy and mount a little clear plastic windshield forward of said head hole. Line the hole with split rubber tubing to
hide sharp edges.
Drill a few holes around the case for good ventilation in the summer and be able to plug holes for winter.
Line the case inside with a little padding suitable to dampen the inevitable jostling around.
edit:
Just went back and saw Obelix's setup, similar to what I was thinking about, windshield and all

What pooch wouldn't like that? Looks like a Airstream or the cockpit to a P-51 Mustang. A little nose art and it would look great! Bettie Page anyone?

I bought Georgia a Tbag carrier last year but won't use it til spring..had to break her into riding via her more confined cat crate...she is half dachsy and half yorkie, but taller then bothe breeds and is longer like a dachsy...she will fit nicely in that bag next year and will be used to travelling by the time I go to the west coast..it has tethers inside and you can cover it if it starts to rain..has plenty of areas to look out of..she LOVES riding BTW and is a natural camper! I like that metal one in that pic that was posted but would lose valuable cargo space for my tent...i don't use a trailer ...YET..

Here is how ours rides. Loves it. She has a pad, 12V blanket, cooling vest fleece jacket, carrier cover, fan, and a remote thermometer so I can watch the her temps while on the bike. She started riding at 8 weeks and is now 7 years old. She loves to go and jumps right in. The cooler sits in front of the carrier on the spare tire.

That's a good idea. We tried the aluminum carrier shown above before the company went out of business but the dog hated it.. We changed to a carrier from this site:
http://www.beastriders.com/products/beastriders/
and she loves it. She's a 25 lb cocker and she's ridden several thousand miles in it now.. the pic unfortunately doesn't show the carrier very well.
