I'm :sick anyone have a good home remedy for a cold? I really need to work tomorrow! Sore throat, nose switches from stuffed to drippy, and coughing. So far whiskey isn't working, but I seem to not mind the cold as much. :p

Ziggy,
This isn't a "home remidy", but they work good for me ....
Alka-Seltzer Plus Liquid Gels. They make 'em for both daytime, and night time.
The daytime ones don't make you drowsy, but stop the runny nose, congestion and headache.

P.S.
Commin down with a cold is a crappy way to celabrate Easter ... :sick

My grandfather used to say,"Set outside and pray it turns to pnuemonia. They can cure that". P^
I mix a little Schnapps with the whiskey. It makes the throut and stomach feel better.

Hot as you can handle bathtub soak with Epsom salts and sweat it out.
Old Timey, but it works for me.

Thanks for the suggestions, the wife had some Alka-Seltzer Plus cold tablets that I found and they seemed to have helped some with the sinuses so my coughing has let up a little.

More booze and a hot soak sounds like a great idea! P^

The good news is most folks get over it in 14 days or two weeks which ever comes first! Seriously, meds and lots of water help.

Wish I could remember Mark Twain's cure for the common cold. I do remember it had to do with bourbon...

Be WELL.

Mark Twain :

I finally concluded to visit San Francisco, and the first day I got here a lady at the Lick House told me to drink a quart of whisky every twenty-four hours, and a friend at the Occidental recommended precisely the same course.

Each advised me to take a quart - that makes half a gallon. I calculate to do it or perish in the attempt.

Now, with the kindest motives in the world, I offer for the consideration of consumptive patients the variegated course of treatment I have lately gone through. Let them try it - if it don't cure them, it can't more than kill them.

The only sure way to get rid of a cold is to give it to someone else. Sooooo, head on into work.....:D

Come to think of it, I haven't had a cold since I quit my day job.

I have used Zicam nasal swabs and several grams of vitamin C when a cold starts and it has lessed the severity and duration. The key is to catch the cold in it's early stages before it progresses:sick.

To follow up, I don't know what I have but it's finally starting to subside. Yesterday at work I was aching all over to the point I actually thought of heading to the ER after work as the doc's office was closed. I haven't eaten or wanted anything to eat since about 9:00am yesterday. I've been forcing down fluids and I'm gradually starting to feel better. It's not like me to not eat, the wife called me yesterday around lunch time and I told her all the other drivers were eating lunch and I was trying to rest in the truck and she said, "You must really be sick!"

I remember when I was a kid, maybe 10-12 y/o, I had a real bad summer cold but being a kid I went swimming anyway for several hours in our local public pool.
It was the typical hyper kid swim of constant playing around but when
I came out of the pool and while walking home I noticed that my awful cold had
totally gone away, absolutely no signs whatsoever.
Whether the active swim day cured it, I don't know but the cold did leave for good. That's been over fifty years ago and and it was such a surprise, a revelation of sorts, that I still remember it.

Drink a lot of water! And for the stuffy head I use "saline nasal spray"....you can get it at any drug store or Walmart. Un limited usage. Best thing I have ever found to get rid of the sinus headache that goes with a head cold.

Okay,

So far it looks like the cure is to drink heavily, jump in the pool and swim all day, while your in there snort a little water up your nose to clean it out, climb out and drink some more, then soak in a hot tub with epson salts and lastly, drink a little more.

Does this really work, or do you just forget you had a cold? :D :D P^

Heck Guy, if you could bottle all that and get FDA approval, you'd
be a gillionaire.

Heck, call it a supplement and sell it in Health food stores. They seem to make claims about everything they carry and don't get anything approved by anyone.

If I could figure out how to get the swimming pool in the bottle, it might be worth it. :D
