Found this site through Stromtroopers. Next phase of motorcycling will definately camping. It has been interesting to read the opinions about gear. Everyone is trying to balance budget, travel conditions, and performance.

Me, I have some really old camping gear that could meet my needs. I am missing two prime ingredients-bag and tent. Spent two weeks sleeping on a GO-KOT on a mission trip. I can deal with that.....the hammock idea is intriging, just wonder how my back would respond in the morning.

SOOO....happy to find an interesting site, with a whole range of experience and stories of places yet to be discovered.

This site may help me answer the question: where shall I go??

I like the definition of riding....

Get the definition of wherever. I have had the privilege of riding in Az., Wa./BC, most of the states east of the Mississippi, at least north of the Mason[Dixon line

Where are the off the beaten path places? Visiting the National Parks. The local eating fare.

For example, Scottsville, Va. has one of the two remaining hand poled ferries in the US! Not a very dramatic traverse across the James River, but it does remind us that all the roads that have ferry in the name, meant that at one time a ferry was the way to cross the river without traveling a significant distance to another crossing point. We forget that now that we have built so many bridges.

One more, Grand Portage, Wisc. was a location were fur traders departed Lake Superior. Can you imagine 40 foot birch bark canoes hauling 3.5 tons of trinkets from Europe and returning filled with fir?

Glad to be here....

Welcome to the site red rambler! We are having a get together in May called the Cherohala Chill Out at Hunt's motorcycle lodge. Grab a tent and bag and head on over. Details are on the front page under events.

Ziggy, when exactly is that Chill Out? I'm leaving for NC memorial day weekend and planned on staying a couple nights in the tellico area. Last time I stayed at the Cherohala Motorcycle Resort just down the road.

Thanks Guy. Yep, looks like the timing is off. I see there's a rockslide on the dragon too. Darn the bad luck!
