I'd like to do more hiking when out camping on the bike, times when you've just had enough riding for the day (okay, doesn't happen often) and want to take advantage of the State/Nat'l Park sites.
The last time I was at Guadalupe Nat'l Park and wanted to hike tot he highest peak in TX, well, I had my tourmaster boots on and they did quite well on the way up... On the way down, my knees were dying. I'm not sure how much of that was attributed to my boots but, thought I'd throw out some questions anyway....
What do you look for in a hiking boot?
Do you take your hiking boots with you when you MotoCamp?
I carry my New Balance walking shoes for any long hikes. I find shoes smaller and easier to pack than large boots, sure take up a lot less room. Years ago I switched from boots to shoes for hiking because of the lighter weight, easier on my legs. One downside with shoes is the lack of ankle support.

I like to hike and have some good hiking boots but I haven't solved the problem of room on the bike. I do bring with me some very light weight hiking shoes that serve as general off-the-bike shoes for me.

I always carry a pair of new ballance walking shoes. I suppose hi tops would be a better choice but then packing it in comes into play.
NB walkers here too. Very light weight and quality built.
Trekking poles when I have the Bushtec.

I make it a point to find room for my Vasque Sundowner IIs... they are a bit bulky and since they are leather also a bit on the heavy side. The up side is that they are well broken in and extremely comfortable. I sometimes ride in these boots as well, especially on my KTM650. I have a bumper sticker on my truck that says, "My other vehicle is a pair of hiking boots".

With a shoe size of 7.5 3E no body makes a hiking boot (or motorcycle boot) that fits me right so I use a pair of sandles for all hiking...
They fit fine and don't take up a lot of room either...

+1 for the New Balance walking shoes. I find them plenty adequate for most hiking. I've also seen people on the Appalacian Trail in high dollar hiking sandals, but the shoes work better for me......a little more ankle support, less straw to remove while walking, and more protection from rocks.

Both of my boy's (17 and 20) wear 13's, they just have narrow feet like their mama! In other words I never run out of yard work shoes, just leave the laces loose.

Good hiking boots also make excellent MC boots. I use Hi-Tec Altitudes. They have a steel arch support, good ankle support and excellent non-skid properties. They are the most comfortable boots I have owned.

I have a pair of hikers from Bass Pro that I used on the GS riding thru Big Bend. They work pretty good and were cheap also. Of course I wear a 15 so my selection is limited also!

No wonder your gas mileage is down you have a lot of wind resistant with boats like that.

And the great thing about wide feet is we don't have to buy swim fins... ;)

Naw... at size 7.5 I don't do that big floppy long shoe thing well... and if I try to wear some hugely long shoe I do the clown front flop thing too well...

I bring a pair of those hybrid shoes that are like a cross between hikers and sneakers. I have no idea what these are really called.
