Hi,
I am planning a trip from So Ca to northern AZ, southern Utah and the four corners area leaving on May 9, 2010 and returning home May 15, 2010. My son and one of his friends are committed at this time. We will be on our DR650’s and camping most of the time. Looking to do a large portion of the ride on dirt. I did a similar trip last year and had a great time.
Looking for anyone else that might be interested in coming along or meeting someplace along the way.
Thanks Tom

Tom, the guys that did the TAT may have some input on the dirt available out there, expecially in UT.

North of the Grand Canyon is out of my 'normal' range, I really don't have any specific suggestions, except the obvious Utah rides. 9, 89, 12, 24, 95, 26, 191 and others. It's really hard to make a bad mistake...
If you give us a little better schedule closer to the day, I might be convinced to buy a cup of coffee or something:)

I have done this area several times on a street bike and once on the DR.
Last time I have a defined schedule and route. This time I want to do more of an unplanned ride. Just get up in the morning and point to a destination. I have never done dry camping off the bike, but have always stayed in camp grounds. This time will camp where ever we end up.
First stay will be around St George, then down to the Grand Canyon, out to the four corners area, up to around Moab, down to lake Powell, Bryce, Zion, then back home thru Flagstaff. Looking at a total of about 2200 miles/ 6 days.
I have been over most all of the paved roads in those areas. Looking for a lot more Dirt than hiway on this trip.
I have a question about traveling on Indian land. How many really get the permits? Is it neseccary? what kind of problems ? Should I plan to go around them or stay to the hiways there?
Thanks Tom

It is on the schedule. I did the Burr trail from Escalante to Bullfrog last year. It is a great ride. We did Smokey Mountain Road out of Page/ Big Water up to Escalante. That is one road not to be missed.
Thanks Tom
