I'll admit that I have a fetish for cool multitools, jack knives, and other gadgets. For ordinary use, I really like the Victorinox Swisstooll Spirit in spite of its funky knife blade. It's got a good array of implements and is pretty compact. For motocamping, the more heavy duty Leatherman Surge that I recently got is going to get used, although this tool is way to big and heavy for every day use. Obviously, I have proper tools in my tool roll, but such a gadget is handy to have around.

I usually also bring a dedicated knife like a Spyderco folder or a small sheath knife like a Grohmann/Russell #1, not to mention a hatchet for fire wood.

Do I need all these things? No, probably not but I think such tools are neat and I like to bring a selection along.

I have a little gerber knife w/scissors. Also, have a bigger leatherman type tool but as you said, those are a little too busy to keep in your jacket. I found last weekend I don't have a bottle opener.. that sucked. But, somemone had a swiss army knife w/bottle opener, yeehaaa!

I keep an old Leatherman in my tool bag, but my main knife is a Swiss Army Super Tinker with a Photon MicroLight II attached to it.

For the multitool thing I have a Victorinox that has just about everything I need. I have a Leatherman Wave but don't usually bring it along. For firewood I have a machete.

That may be a little overkill but I thought it was neat. :) Maybe a little of "Tim the Toolman" in me.

I keep an SOG multi-tool in my tank bag, and carry a Gerber AR3.0 knife everywhere.......

I just ordered a cheap Swiss Army knife, don't remember the model, for $20... lost my gerber somewhere...

I also have a bigger version of the leatherman on the bike but it's too heavy to really keep with you. I wanted something small and light so I could loose it too... LOL

I carry a Kershaw 1620ST, which is small, has a pocket clip, and most importantly, opens & closes with one hand almost like a pushbutton (and is still legal).

My Swiss Army Spartan arrived today - really like it, thought it was kinda cheap at first but it's pretty nice.. light weight, just enough of the right tools. And tweezers, never can find tweezers..

I carry a Craftsman multi-tool, and a 3" blade Gerber. Both get plenty of use ....

I like my Victorinox Deluxe Tinker... with the pliers. It's not as useful as a leatherman, but good for light duty work. I will admit that Wenger swiss army sissors are better than the Victorinox. If I ever get a larger multi-too... I really like the Gerber brand.

For cutting larger firewood, I have a cheap folding campsaw.

The machete sounds like a good idea for motocamping... better than carrying a hachet or axe.
