Hello,
I am planning a trip to Big Bend from Dallas, looping home through the Texas Hill County. We are planning to camp the entire trip. I have a few concerns about finding suitable camping around BB & BBR parks. I am not feeling too confident based in the info I am finding on the National Parks and TPWL web sites that we can camp without mules. Has anyone here camped there and could give me an idea of what to really expect? I did not want to ride that far to stay in the tourist resort.

My second Q: We will be riding an St1300 and a Concours, so I am also worried that our bikes may not be well suited to many of the roads in the park. I do not want to ride there and not be able to tour the parks.

And, any advice on what to check out in west Texas would be greatly appreciated.

Other Details:
On the way to BB we are looking at camping at the Monahans SP. From there we are on to the Fort Davis, Marfa, Alpine area. The next day would put us to BBNP & BBR area for a few days. After riding/camping Big Bend we plan to head to Junction / Telegragh's So. Llano River SP. From there to Fredericksburg and a day or so in the hill country camping at Inks Lake SP.

It is worth noting that except for Inks Lake I HAVE NOT BEEN TO ANY OF THESE PLACES BEFORE. So, all opinions & suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, Glenn

Dang,

You just missed our get together at BBNP. Don't worry, plenty of paved roads in and around BBNP. Although there are some interesting sites on the unpaved roads there too. The campgrounds were nice, but I'm not a fan of pay showers. Be sure to check out Terlingua and RM170 to Presidio. I didn't get to ride all the way to Presidio, but it is a very nice ride.

Big Bend Ranch camp grounds are at the end of a 25 mile rocky road. I'd scratch that one off the list.

There are riverside camp sites on the El Camino Del Rio near Lahitas and hot showers at the RV camp in Study Butte.

Be sure to stop by the Starlite. http://www.starlighttheatre.com/

Fort Davis SP is nice place to camp. P^

There is free camping in the Terlingua city park on the south side of 170 but it has no water and pit toilets. :D

Thanks,
Looks like we may plan to base out of Ft Davis for a few days as a back-up and then see what we find as we explore. Thanks for the feedback, I will check out the suggestions that I have received.
