Well where do I begin.....well my name is Chris and I'm a "rookie" at this whole motorcycle camping thing. I camped as a kid and really enjoyed it and after talking to my wife about the idea of motorcycle camping, she was all for it. So that brings me to this site with hopes of learning more about motorcycle camping. I've been doing a ton of research on camping gear and have spent a couple days at REI this week asking questions. I've got my "shopping" list put together on the gear I want and should be getting it next month. I guess REI runs a sale in April, so I'll wait for that.
I look forward to learning from all of you.
Thanks,
Chris

Welcome to the site Chris! This site has tons of great info and some of the nicest members anywhere. Don't be shy, if you have questions post em up and you will get answers. I'm a fan of REI myself. Where else can you go look at a tent, and they will set it up for you right there in the store. Be sure and check the REI Outlet part of their site, a lot of times they will have last years models discounted simply because they changed a color of a tent, etc.

Hi Chris and welcome to the site. I'm in the same place as you, this will be the first year I'll be camping during my moto-tours. There is so much info on this site as well as REI, Campmor, Trailspace and the BMW Owners of America website for selecting equipment. Even after using all of them, I still needed a trip to the Campmor Retail store to actually touch and feel the stuff on my list to make sure it would work for me. I even brought along my T-Bag to make sure it would fit the way I was planning. They smiled a little, but they let me do it. It was amazing how helpful the people at the store were. Even the shoppers were trying to help out! It was really pretty funny. They even let me try out sleeping bags to see what did and didn't work. In the end for around $400. bucks I got outfitted enough to give this a go. That's less than I usually spend on motel rooms for a week so it seems worth a try.
Good Luck,
Bob

You've come to the right place Chris. Welcome aboard.
I've been doing a ton of research on camping gear and have spent a couple days at REI this week asking questions.
We don't have one where I live but when I went camping in the N GA mountains a couple of weeks ago, I went a good bit out of the way so that I'd pass by an REI. Did the same thing on the way back. I can spend hours in there (and a fortune too!). You ought to consider their $20 lifetime membership. You get 10% back on all your purchases, special offers, discounts, etc.

Hey I'll tell you what. Next time I head down to my Sisters' place outside of Richmond I'll drop you a line. A trip into Georgia isn,t THAT FAR out of the way! I suppose I've taken longer ways home!

Hi Chris,
I also live in SE Mass....(Dartmouth)........I'm president of the Yankee Beemers motorcycle club. We are a moto-camping oriented club, although we also offer a few "hard side" events during the year. You do not need to own a BMW to join our bunch.
Check us out at www.yankeebeemers.org
If you would like to join us for a breakfast meeting, let me know and I'll introduce you around.

Hey Roy, are you heading up to the BMWRA rally in Pownel at the end of July? Sounds like it will be good camping and the roads up in VT can't be beat. I'm definitely going with some friends, I think it should be a blast!
