Hi all!
This looks like the sub forum where folks are introducing themselves so here we go!
I'm so happy to have found this site of like minded riders. I've been riding for about 8 years now and camping for roughly six of those years. My first bike (Yamaha Seca II) was a great bike to learn on but definitely not a touring bike but I knew I had the itch to do some good distances.
In younger days I used to do a fair amount of bicycle touring so stepping up to something with an engine and on board storage was a real thrill. Six years ago, a colleague sold me his Honda PC800 but it was totaled last November. I was rear-ended in stop 'n go traffic on my way to work. *sigh* What can you say except...
What's my next bike gonna be?
Welp, the insurance claim went very well so I stepped up to a used, 2003 ST1300. An eBay purchase from a mechanic in Ohio, it just arrived about 1 month ago. I LOVE this bike!
Right now she's in the garage with most of the tupperware stripped while I add some extra DC wiring. I've almost completed the task of adding an auxiliary fuse block to power the toys I salvaged from the PC: GPS, Autocom, Uni-go trailer wiring harness, DC outlet and I'm adding heated grips to this bike! (something I've never had.) I'm just waiting on the Hitachi connectors from Electricalconnnections.com so I can plug in, button it up and get back on the road.
I'm looking forward to a camping/riding filled summer with my 12 year old son. We've covered a fair amount of Oregon, Northern Cali and Washington. Most of the PC800 guys in the area that I ride with are of the Motel 6 persuasion but I really like to camp. It keeps the travel costs down and keeps me just that much more connected with the outdoors. Every now and then we splurge on a Yurt but the Uni-go facilitates ample storage for just the right amount of stuff. At 5 cubic ft, you're not tempted to bring everything and the kitchen sink.
Welp, that was long winded but that's a smidge about me.
Any Northwesterners in da' house?
Rubber side down, Gents!
