Hi all!

This looks like the sub forum where folks are introducing themselves so here we go!

I'm so happy to have found this site of like minded riders. I've been riding for about 8 years now and camping for roughly six of those years. My first bike (Yamaha Seca II) was a great bike to learn on but definitely not a touring bike but I knew I had the itch to do some good distances.

In younger days I used to do a fair amount of bicycle touring so stepping up to something with an engine and on board storage was a real thrill. Six years ago, a colleague sold me his Honda PC800 but it was totaled last November. I was rear-ended in stop 'n go traffic on my way to work. *sigh* What can you say except...

What's my next bike gonna be?
Welp, the insurance claim went very well so I stepped up to a used, 2003 ST1300. An eBay purchase from a mechanic in Ohio, it just arrived about 1 month ago. I LOVE this bike!

Right now she's in the garage with most of the tupperware stripped while I add some extra DC wiring. I've almost completed the task of adding an auxiliary fuse block to power the toys I salvaged from the PC: GPS, Autocom, Uni-go trailer wiring harness, DC outlet and I'm adding heated grips to this bike! (something I've never had.) I'm just waiting on the Hitachi connectors from Electricalconnnections.com so I can plug in, button it up and get back on the road.

I'm looking forward to a camping/riding filled summer with my 12 year old son. We've covered a fair amount of Oregon, Northern Cali and Washington. Most of the PC800 guys in the area that I ride with are of the Motel 6 persuasion but I really like to camp. It keeps the travel costs down and keeps me just that much more connected with the outdoors. Every now and then we splurge on a Yurt but the Uni-go facilitates ample storage for just the right amount of stuff. At 5 cubic ft, you're not tempted to bring everything and the kitchen sink.

Welp, that was long winded but that's a smidge about me.
Any Northwesterners in da' house?

Welcome to the site. I will be spending a lot of the summer in Washingon and Oregon this summer. I lived in the Columbia Gorge for about 10 years and spend as much time up there in the summer as I can.

David,

Welcome to the site. I gotta tell ya, that had to be a sad day to see the PC go bye bye. I used to have one and I loved it. But you made the step in the right direction as the PC was kinda the proto type to the ST and the ST is a great Bike. As Jeff said, maybe we will cross paths some time..

Welcome David. Sorry to hear about the PC demise. I've always liked the looks of those bikes and they are bulletproof. There was a fellow I rode with in Alaska last summer who was on a PC.

I've been riding about the same length of time as you and m/c camping for most of it. I've found this site to really germain to m/c camping and know a few of the fellows from the Pacific NW including Jeff in Ferndale and Chris who runs a PNW camping website.

Also, I, too, ride an ST. Mine's a very low mileage '01 ST1100 which I've owned since it had 1800 miles on it. It's starting to get miles put on it now that I solved the ergonomics.

Wow. Such a hearty welcome from everyone. So cool!

Jeff: Howdy neighbor. Yes, I hope we cross paths too. Let's purpose to make it happen!

Rick: Glad U enjoyed the intro.

Clint: Hey, drop me a line when you've got an itinerary worked out. Perhaps we can ride a bit together or at least converge on the same campground to roast a few weenies together and tell some lies.

Steve: Hey Kentucky Boy! Nice ta' meecha!

Chris: Thanks for the condolences. Definitely seeing the PC go was more emotional than I would have guessed. Almost like a family member had passed on.. but not quite. ;-) The framed photo gallery around my living room is a shrine to her memory though. A great bike and we had some great adventures together but I am SO hooked on the ST now. This bike and I REALLY click!

Hey Tom: Jealous of your weather. Wish I could get down there someday to check out your fine state.

Yo David: Hey great name, sir! Thanks for the welcome!

Ritch: I have heard of Damtour several years ago but sorta forgot about it. I'll check out the site, definitely. Anythings possible! And I may just take you upon a PM or two from time to time.

Chris-Jeff-Timmer-Ritch (and anyone else in striking range): Let's find a midpoint and at least share a Coke and a smile together someday real soon. Perhaps while together for a short meet 'n greet we might plan a camping destination! Any takers??! So who's up for a burger in Olympia (ish) someday soon? ;-)

Welcome David

Great intro...

I lived in Astoria Oregon for 4 years while in the Coast Guard. I would drive by Beaverton all the time on Hwy 26 to Portland. Absolutely fell in love with the northwest. Here is a pic of my 89' harley springer packed with camping gear at Mount St. Helens. Gotta get back up there some day on a motorcycle.
