I am working on some details on having a RTE in the UP, local speciality sandwich on the menu, any interest? Moved to 12 August due to conflict

The
CUDIGHI SANDWICH

Never had one, don't know what your missing, come to the land just south of the big lake and treat yourself to some of the local flavor.
THE CUDIGHI SAUSAGE SANDWICH
It’s a handful, a large patty on a bun with red sauce, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers and cheese.

This is still remote country, you can see Moose, Wolves, Deer, Turkeys, and Bear along side of our hiways. So be careful. There are no interstates, only two lane roads.

Limited camping in my yard
State forest campgrounds close by (Rustic, short drive down a gravel road, all are located by lakes)
Private campground close by, (Horseshoe lake campground 906 346 9937 showers available)
(Model Towne Inn 906 346 7901)
Marquette is 30 miles away, Escanaba is 50 miles away.

Very informal, but really need to know how many will be eating so I can get a number to Rodney as the sausage is made fresh every day. Any questions PM me and I'll do my best to answer them.

Come and ride the UP and take in the great inland seas, Lakes Michigan, Huron, and the grand daddy of them all, Lake Superior. Visit some of the area history. The National Ski Hall of fame is in nearby Ishpeming, the Cliffs Shaft mining museum, and the Mining Heritage museum. There is Whitefish point shipwreck museum on the eastern end, and the Soo locks, and of course the Mighty Mac that joins the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. To the west there is the Copper Country and Calumet a national historic theme park from the copper boom of days gone by. Dannyk

I can't make it that far for a RTE since all my remaining vacation is spoken for... but, just curious what the UP is?

Is there a website or map to the loaction? Might help others to decide to go.:D

Joe, if you look at a map of Michigan, there are two parts seperated by lake Michigan, the UP is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, remote and unspoiled, the lower peninsula has the large cities and auto plants, we are connected to the lower by the Mackinaw bridge on I-75 it is bordered by Lake Superior to the North and Lake Michigan to the south along with Wisconsin, it streches from the St Marys river and Ontario Canada to the east and the northern border of Wisconsin to the west. I'm 150 miles north of Green Bay Wisconsin, 400 from Minneapolis, 350 from Chicago, and 450 from Detroit, does that help? Gwinn, Michigan 49841

Just look for all the dead porcupines off the side of the road, you know you're close when you see 'em! And I was wondering why they called them the Porcupine Mountains...

The porkies as they are called look like the back of a porcupine from a distance.

The first and only time I camped out in the UP of Michigan, I got stuck for several hours on my Goldwing.

Hey Danny,

How's the skeeter's at your house??? I was raised in northern Wisconsin (Ladysmith) still have family there.... In fact, I have a sister and brother-in-law living in Nagaunee. Dave works at the air port in Marquette... He rides a Harley 883 but I don't hold that against him... :p :p He also does some serious off road action. I don't hold that against him either... :D :D :D

Just so happens I'm planning on being up home for my Dad's 90th birthday in August... I'll see if the RTE can get scheduled in there too.... Might be able to bunk at the Sis's place... If not, I know how to pitch a tent.....

I got off of the main highway in the UP of Michigan on my way to a primitive campground that was about 6 miles from the main road. The road to the campground gradually turned into nothing but sand about half way to the campground when my Goldwing buried up to the mufflers in sand. I was able to get off of my Goldwing with it still standing straight up by itself.
It was about 5 hours before anyone came by to help. Needless to say, I didn't get to that particular campground. After getting dug out with some help, I turned around and found a regular campground with solid roads.

A not so fun adventure! I stay away from those kinds of roads with my ST1100... touring bikes are not good at off road riding sometimes!

The RTE and campout was last year in august, this year august was full of stoc events, and especially westoc so nothing was planned for august. A few of last years participants asked to have an annual event so this year its in July as not to conflict with other gatherings. See attached. Sorry for any confusion
