Digging foxholes, cat hole latrines, banging tent stakes into the ground and cutting small limbs with it's serrated edge is nothing new to those who have served in the infantry. The military shovel is relatively light and compact to carry on your person or stash on a motorcycle; they are extremly sturdy and should last a life time if taken care of; they come with a plastic case that can be worn on a belt in it's folded position They also make a deadly improvised weapon if needed. The best part is the price is right at around two sawbucks ($20.00) or less for a good used one. Keep it clean and wipe it down with a little WD-40 now and then to keep rust off on the blade.

I carry a 'knock off' less than $10.00 per. About the max I ask of it is cleaning out a fire ring, but it makes the grade for NFS back country camping. Shovel, bucket, axe are the requirements, I get by with folding shovel, cook pot, hatchet.

The E tool is more basic in design than yours with out the pick and fancy handle. It does the job

I use one of these little shovels:

It's great for digging small holes and packs up REAL small. As long as you don't need the chopping or improvised weapon features.

The Gerber shovel is a nice looking camping tool. The Glock shovel does't look too bad either.P^

I carry the same one as Tom, from Wally World, about $10. Folds up small enuff, not really heavy duty.
I also have a real military surplus with pic on the other end and a real leather sheath, wooden handle. It weighs about 4 time as much as the cheapy and is just a little larger. Carry it in the Ford, not on the bike.
