I overnighted at this campground on Sept 4/09, during my 8,500+ mile cross country tour.
This is a fairly large campground, consisting of 4 loops. While situated close to Manzanita Lake, none of the sites are along it's shoreline. The campground sits at an elevation of 5890'.
Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring and a 'bear box' for food/personal hygiene storage. There are 5 'comfort stations' with flush toilets and water located throughout the park and most are within easy walking distance. There are hot showers and a limited amount of supplies/groceries located at the 'Camp Store', by the entrance to the campground. They also sell fuel here as well, but expect to pay top dollar for that, as there are not many gas stations near the actual park entrances, so make sure you fill up just before entering the park! They also have laudry facilites and no WiFi.
Generator use is limited to daylight hours.
The fee per night was $18 and you must have exact change, so get it at the store if you do not.
This park was quite busy when I was here, with 70% of the sites used by people with RVs.
Typical of most National Park campgrounds, the camp sites are crowded, rather small and don't provide much privacy.
Although there are 'night patrols', there was a party going on at the site across from me and after many visits by the 'patrol', things finally quietened down after midnight.
Manzanita Lake is more of a 'pond', rather than a lake. There is a trail that winds around the lake and takes 25 minutes to walk.
The night was clear and cool when I stayed here, waking up in the morn to temps of 36*F.
There are some great roads/riding within the park and lots of great scenery, making this NP well worth the visit. SR 89 is a great ride!!This campground, while 'adequate' for my overnight stay, certainly wouldn't be my 1st choice if I was to stay in the park for more than 1 night. There are several campgrounds located throughout Lassen Volcanic NP and I would want to explore for a more 'remote' campground for that purpose.
I found Manzanita Lake Campground too crowded/noisy for my liking and would suggest another campground, if possible
One side benefit of staying here was meeting a fellow rider from Meadow Vista CA(Carl, who rides a ST 1300) and we hooked up for the next 4 days, while he lead me along some beauty roads, out to/along the northern coast . P^
