There are many National Forest Campgrounds in the Sawtooth National Forest, near Ketchum/Stanley, Idaho.
We 1st checked out another NF campground(North Fork) which is slightly closer to Ketchum, but half of it was flooded(all gravel roads) and was unappealing, so give this one a pass!!!
Wood River Campground is 7.9 mi north of Ketchum, and is located on the south/west side of SR 75.
We stayed here on June 17/09 and found this to be a quite and pleasant camp with spacious sites, clean wheelchair friendly vault toilets, water spigots scattered throughout the camp area and no traffic noise from nearby SR 75.
There is two sections to this campground, with the 1st road running off to the right soon after you enter the campground road and cross a bridge. This is mainly for RVs and is a lot closer to the highway. To access the 'main campground', continue on the main paved road and you will pass a maintenance building and the Camp Host on your left. The road continues on ahead and slightly to the left before it starts sweeping back off to the right, passing all the nice campsites, all with paved aprons, picnic tables and fire rings(firewood for a fee), before it ends in a loop at the far end of the campground.
There are no 'improved' tent pads, so pitching your tent is easy.
This campground was pretty well filled by supper time.
There is a Hot Spring(Easley Hot Springs/Cathedral Pines -{Fee}) just a couple miles further along SR 75, towards Stanley
Two bikes/two tents was $12/night
No showers, or WiFi. Close to all amenities in Ketchum
