I haven’t hauled it on the bike yet, but I can attest to the comfort and warmth with my Montbell Super Stretch Down 650.

I tested it out last fall in sub-freezing temps and it kept me pretty warm. My toes were a bit chilly, but I might expect that.

What I really enjoy is the elastic…. I tried a North Face mummy bag and that was like being hog tied. I still am not crazy about the mummy style, but I can at least live with it in my Super Stretch. You can move around and get your arms up to the hole a lot easier. I don’t like to be zipped up with my arms confined, but this is better. I’m pretty round at 5’6” 230…..and it accommodates me pretty nicely. It packs pretty small too. Maybe not as small as the 800 fill, but it’s small enough.

Taking it with me on a six day tour next week. Looks like I’ll be depending on it for warmth in some pretty chilly temps. Glad I tested it out to see how it worked in the cold first.

What did you think of the bag after the trip?

I too have a Montbell super stretch bag. Mine is the #2 Ultralight SS Down. I love the bag. It's super light, packs teeny tiny and like FastFwd said they stretch. I used it last night in freezing wet temps while gear testing my new Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1. Yes, the south does freeze. Check the weather report. We had another serious cold snap. Power outages, black ice etc. My bag is rated to only 25 degrees so I was beyond stretching the limits of this bag. Ended up being ok though because I slept on an Exped Downmat 7DLX and used a Sea To Summit Thermal Reactor bag liner on the inside. All three are wonderful technological marvels. I know that there are other bags out there that will keep one toasty down into the teens but rarely will you find one that does that and packs down to around 6x10. So, that's my take on the Montbell SS Ultralight sleeping bag.
