There are really 3 (I think) separate campgrounds in the Recreation area, located between Prescott and Jerome. Just happens to be on one of the best MC roads in the country, 89A.

This in a VERY scenic area, the campground is no exception. There is a 6 mile dirt road through the area, we stayed at the 'back' campground, it was worth the ride. Cost was $6.00 (water system is down, is half price) or $3.00 with your National Park Pass. Only 6 sites 'tent only' in 'our' campground, the rest were 'mixed use'. No problem using a tent on any of them. Concrete NFS picnic table, fire ring (with grate) and BBQ stand at every site. Clean pit toilets fairly close to every site. Our tent site was very rocky.

I have 'rough camped' in this area several times, this is my first visit to the campground. It was worth the $3.00 for me to have the tables and fire rings. Wood was a little harder to come by than in rough areas, but a half hour of gathering wood (by 3 of us) gave us more wood than we could burn in one day.

All in all, a good place. There was an antique scooter gathering at the "first" campground, kinda cool to see the Vespas and Cushman and Mustang guys. They were all trailer queens, near as I could tell.

Nice rr, review, and pics. I love that area of AZ. P^

We rode to Jerome a few years ago and it was quite a trip up.

I agree with you on 89A. Here's a pic from our 2006 trip. It's near the top of the last corkscrew.
