Most of you guys & gals who ride probably haven't seen these units because they are in the Nuvi (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=13424#specsTab) line. Check out the most affordable WATERPROOF GPS unit that Garmin offers; if you drive, bike, hike, or boat this is a great unit. It's mounts easily and has a lot of cool features. Compared to the Zumo 550 or 660 it's about 400.00 less money.

Welcome to the site Pubrunner, great looking Glide! How big is that S&S? Six speed?

I have a 550 that I used on a trip to AK with Black and Blue this summer and it is definitely waterproof! Great unit if you don't need a lot of extras.

Thank You for the warm welcome! :D
I love the nuvi 500 It's great and for the price you just can't beat it.
The S & S is just a little ol 96" with a 5sp. Plenty of power for the ol girl since she's only 23 yrs young :)

Welcome as well . I looked at teh Nuvi and went with a less costly TomTom XL one as its got a bigger screen 4.5 vrs 3.5. came down to I dont ride in rain if I can help it at all. If it starts to rain I will pull over and cover the GPS or put it away .

In case anyone is wondering what the difference is between the 500 and 550 it's only the map.

500 - Lower US, Puerto Rico, Hawaii (no Alaska, Canada)
550 - 50 US, Canada, Puerto Rico

I bought a Nuvi 550 for my ride to Alaska this June and only had one major issue. While visiting my son in Ketchikan, the Nuvi was packed away in my tank bag and the bag just sitting on the floor of his spare bedroom.

When I got ready three days later to head back to the 48's, my custom routes and the little custom motorcycle figure had disappeared from the Nuvi. The 550 had reset itself back to factory defaults. The Nuvi had a full charge, so that wasn't the issue.

I had to reload my custom routes into the 550 and that was a pain in the rear.

Other than that, it worked fine. I rode through lots of rain on that trip and the waterproofing worked great, not an issue.

May not have been an issue - if you turn on the Nuvi 500/550 and are touching the screen in the lower left corner it is supposed to reset to factory defaults. :)
