great idea here's another idea get a all metal vale stem then you only need 1 size hole because they seal with a o ring instead of that mushroom shaped bottom

Outstanding idea, just bought a 40qt. igloo for my cargo trailer and NO drain plug. I'll be heading out to AutoZone here in a little bit.

Thanks...................P^

Well thought out.
I like to save money when I can. I saw a thrown away cooler in front of my next door neighbors house. (They are a great source for extra "parts" like hinges and such.) I checked it out and all it had was one broken hinge. Talked to my neighbor and took it. That is how I landed my cooler drain.
A buddy of mine used a standard bathroom sink drain and went thru the bottom. He seals it with a plug.

My cooler is the tour pack on my bike. I poured beer into the tour pack and watched where it pooled at (left front corner). Drilled a small hole in that corner for the water to drain from.

Got the ice chest and plateform with my Aspen Classic. Nothing fancy and of course no drain. It was an Igloo, so I went on their website and found these: http://www.igloo-store.com/product_list.asp?HDR=search&SEARCH=drain

A little bit more expensive than the valve stem (never thought about that one), but it works good.

I leave a bit of water in the chest to soak my wet vest when it's hot out.
