View Full Version : Trailmaster--Will they "deal"?

For people who have purchased Aspen campers from Trailmaster--Were they willing to come down off the advertised prices, or were you able to "deal" as you would for a car? I have the possibility of purchasing one used from an individual that's not *too* far away, but the ease of having one delivered, just like I want it, is appealing, too. If anyone has anything to share about their experience with Trailmaster, I'd appreciate it.

Hey, Nette, welcome to the house:)

I don't have a single bit of trailer experience, I'm sure some one will help you.

Glad you are here!

We paid their asking price (sale price) for our Aspen Sentry ... BUT, we did get some perks.
It was during their end of season sale in October of the year we placed an order for our trailer. We found out they were going to show their trailers at a motorcycle dealer show about a hundred miles from us in Janurary of the following year. We asked if they could bring our trailer to the show for us to pick up when they came. They said it would be completed by then, and they could do that, and they wouldn't charge us for shipping.
On top of that, they gave us four free passes to get into the event. ($18.00 X 4 = $72.00)
In a manor of speaking, we got free shipping, and no sales tax, with free show tickets to boot. P^
I really liked working with these people ... real helpful, and flexable.
Talk to "Peggy" when you call them, and see what you can hammer out.

Thanks for the welcome, Tom!

And G wizz--I've already talked to Peggy! Very helpful lady, she is. Don't want to jinx anything, but the deal with the used camper might just come through. I'm looking at the Ambassador, if anyone has anything to share about that one.

Nette:
Nice thing about the Ambassator is the two twin beds. Makes it nice if a couple of guys want to go camping, and not be too cosy ...
Another plus is the hard top roof.
The only two things I didn't care for were the high step you have to take to get over the back wall to get in & out, and the lack of usable storage space when it's set up.
If you get it and deside you don't like it, let me know, I have a friend that is just dying to find a good used Aspen Ambassator.

The thing that worries me about the Ambassador is the weight. I've been having fun for the last few weeks making cargo lists of "got to have's" vs. "nice to have's". My husband has never pulled a trailer behind our Goldwing before, so this is an entirely new experience for us. I hope pulling it doesn't turn out to be something that he dreads...

P.S. I LOVE camping, but have never combined touring with camping. I'm hoping this will fulfill both desires!

Yes, that model trailer is a large one, but the Wing will have plenty of power to pull it. As for your husband pulling a trailer, he shouldn't have a problem. My wife never pulled a trailer before this year either, now when we go camping, she won't go without hers. She loves her little trailer, and all the extra room she has for "things" now.
If she can pull a trailer, anyone can.
My wife and I both enjoy riding and camping so much that Motocamping is the only way we vacation anymore.
The more you motocamp, the more you learn you what you really need, and don't need to take for an enjoyable trip.
After each trip, remove from the camper everything that you took, and put the stuff onto two piles ... in one pile goes things you used, in the other, things you didn't use. On your next trip, leave the things from the "did not use" pile home.
Just keep doing this, and it won't be long before you have a tidy little camper. P^

Oh, One other thing ... Please forgive me ... I forgot to welcome you to the Motocamping forum. There is lots of interesting information here, along with many interesting people willing to share their exprineces, and expertise.

Hi Nette and welcome to the forum. I bought a Aspen Classic from Trailmaster and picked it up at their Open House this past April. They are running a Summer Sale now and they still have the same price that I paid in April. I have not had any problems with it at all and I am very happy with it. I think that it is a very well engineered. It sets up in a snap and has so many features that I think are better than the other trailers out there I could go on and on. I talked to Peggy many times also and found her to be very helpful. You can contact them at www.trailmasterinc.com.

Well, I don't even HAVE a camper yet, but I've been burning up Amazon trying to outfit the thing! Sleeping bags, Coleman grill/stove, portable DVD player (THAT's for my husband, BTW! He's the one that will be missing the remote in the motel!). The most frivolous thing, however, is this little item:

Care to guess what I'm going to use it for??? :D I decided that if it ends up being too much trouble, I can always give it to one of the hunters in the family...

It arrived at the office today, and literally *erupted* out of the carrying bag. I need to study some more on how to get it back in the bag.

Well, we were able to buy the *used* 2008 Ambassador after all. :)

Will post some pictures of our campsite when we take our first trip. After seeing the cargo room in that thing, I don't think I'll have to worry about trying to fit all the gear in there. Thanks to everyone for the welcome and encouragement.

Nette:
Congratulations on your purchase. P^ If it was indeed an "08", it must not have been used very much. Hope you got a good deal on it.
I'm sure you and your husband will get a lot of enjoyment from it. Not to mention you will also be the center of attention in the campgrounds you set it up in. Hope you're up to a lot of questions being asked about it.
Tell your husband to check the tire air pressure, and set it to about 30 to 35 lbs., also, try not to go over 40 lbs. tongue weight. Most motorcycle hitches arn't rated for much more than that.
Be aware of the weight of the things you pack, it's really easy to get carried away, and overload, remember your pulling this with a motorcycle, not a truck.
