I am planning a trip from Modesto California to Yellowstone National park. So far all the planning I have done is typing the previous sentance. I would like some recomendations on places to stay and things to see and pleasant ways to get there. What is the weather going to be like? What kind of high temps and low temps will I see?

Go out to www.intellicast.com/Local/History.aspx - select yellowstone natl park and check historic averages. You can do this for all of the planned route.

We liked the Ponderosa Campground in Cody. From here you can walk to the Buffalo Bill Center, and the Erma Hotel. Good Food close by, Showers and restrooms were large, they have camping cabins and Tee Pees to rent too. We went into Yellowstone for three days while staying here and had a great time.
There is a Forestry Campground just East of Jackson Hole. I can't remember the name, but lots of spaces and room.
Have fun.

One of the most beautiful roads you could ever travel is there. If you're basing out of Cody, swing around on 14A and pick up 212 the Beartooth Highway. Entering the park thru Cooke City and the Lamar Valley is very moving.

14A is nice east of Cody as well. Beautiful canyon you run through. Seems like you can reach and touch the walls in some places. Really high above your head at some points as well.
As always, there is a lot of road construction going on in that area. So don't be surprised at some dirt and construction flag man zones.

Thanks for the info from all of you.
I have a V-strom with all terrain tires and am not afraid of dirt roads or back country campgrounds.

Slightly off topic....
Since there are bears in that part of the country, give thought to food preparation and storage. If you are going to eat in restaurants, no issue. If you are planning on cooking you may want to check into the "best practices" for safe food storage.
A few friends and I were planning a similar trip from Vegas. We were going to head up to Yellowstone then proceed up to Glacier. The weekend before we were leaving I was loading my Road King on a trailer to drop it off for service. I stepped down off of the trailer, stepped half on the curb and half off, twisted my ankle and fractured it.... Needless to say that the trip didn't happen.
I'm sure your trip will be MUCH better! LOL!
