I'm curious if there are any women motocampers out there besides me and Blueproof. If so, where are you? I'm in Georgia and finding pals out there that live to ride and love to camp are few and far between. There are those that ride their own but don't do the camping thing and there are those that camp but don't ride. What's up??

I know a couple of other women motocampers but I don't think they're on this site. I'll try to convince them to come on over! :D

I hear ya, though, most of my women riding buddies don't camp and most of my women camping buddies don't ride. Weird!

My wife (who doesn't usually go on the boards) would qualify. Last weekend we spent in the Laurel Highlands in Pa. with the Interceptors.

Womantriker camps with me. I'm not sure she would just go camping on her own though.

There you have it. One in CA, one in PA, one in OH and then there's me in GA. Pretty darn sad.

My wife camps with me as well, and she rides her own bike (but she doesn't get on the forums much either). We're in Nebraska.

Hi! I'm one of those women motocampers that live to ride and love to camp. Just found this site not too long ago. I'm in the San Diego area. I ride a SV650, Ninja 250, XT225, Honda 80. Camped with all of them (except Honda 80). Love to camp!!! And ride!!! Been following Bluepoof's site for several years. Perhaps we'll camp and ride together sometime. :) Like this site alot. (First time I've posted.)

Pappaclutch:
We must have the same wife. Mine does the ride / camp thing as much as I do, but she won't get on the computer to ' talk" to anyone.
Says she spends too much time on it now using it to pay bills and such.

Oh hay ... almost forgot ... welcome to the forum.

Well, we have our very own blue...or is it black? I can't keep it straight. 2 from here (she's from SOCal) are on their way to AK...

I know one other, in MT. Not much help to you either, though she rides all over and might be in Georgia right now for all I know...

I ride with a few women here in Houston but they are not on this site. I guess I need to talk to them about that.

Lori I just want to say welcome to our campsite. :D

bigTom; It's Black (cause the Yamaha is black and his is blue!). Kinda catchy, huh?

Welcome Liv2Ride! Glad you found the forum. There is a lot of experience here and very nice members. Look forward to pictures and trip reports!

I'm not sure you will find sub-groups in MotoCampers though. Everyone here just loves to ride and camp. No segregation or elitist groups. Doesn't matter what gender you are, what you ride, or where you are from; everybody gets the same sore rear end at the end of a long ride!

At least that is my opinion...I can't see what conversation would be specific to women...unless it was one of those topics that shouldn't be discussed on a family orientated forum such as this.

Thank you for the welcomes, Trailace and Blueproof. I've been following Blueproof through all her motorcycles and hockey games for several years. Just like to read, more than post. But I do love to ride and camp. And I thought this post about Women Motocampers, it was about time I post. Since I'm in Southern CA, I thought one time we might meet up and ride and camp. Fun, fun... I just found this site and it's the best of both worlds, riding and camping.

Hey Black and Blue. I'm not trying to segregate or isolate the women from the men. That happens enough without any help from me. I'm trying to pal up with folks in my area that ride/camp. Not just ride and not just camp. So far it seems that California is in the front of the pack for the number of women that ride/camp. Based on my observation it seems that backpackers often have the same issues. There are fewer women that backpack/camp than there are women that will backpack OR camp. The good news is that it appears that this thread has brought some light to the subject and have linked up a couple of our good folks for possible motocamping. You see! It's all good! Now, if only someone in Georgia or one of the nearby states will step forward!

My girlfriend rode and camped with me back when I rode a GL1000. Then we married. Soon she got pregnant. She hasn't swung a leg over a bike since the day she learned she was going to have a baby. That was 6.5 years ago. I can't argue with that logic, even though I don't agree. I just look on the bright side - lots more room for gear on the bike and I don't need a trailer.

But I do envy guys with riding SO's. I have to admit it'd be nice.

We still camp. Next weekend we'll be driving a Jeep through Deals Gap, fully loaded with camping gear and family. There are some great camping spots on the other side of the gap.

Wife and I both camp (same tent, 2 bikes.)

Liv2Ride

I agree with having more room on the bike for luggage and camping stuff. That's why it's best when each rides their own. Tor has it made since he and his wife ride and since they are sharing everything, they only need to bring one set of everything. Well, except maybe the clothes :-) I don't have the luxury of splitting the load since I'm the only one in my tent also, so I need every inch of my backseat and luggage rack! Yes there are tons of awesome places to ride and camp out there on both sides of the Dragon. Around 3 weeks ago a half a dozen of us rode out to Cherokee, NC for the weekend and had a blast. The Blueridge Parkway is a ride to remember and on the way back to GA we decided to take the long way and rode through the Cherohala Skyway up in TN. Absolutely beautiful but still a notch below the Blueridge. I highly recommend everyone who is able to take the Blueridge ride and camp out in the Appalachians. Something mystical about the place. By the way I was the only woman out of three that camps and rides. The other 2 are hotel campers and of those 2 only one rides her own. You see....our numbers are few.

Liv2Ride, My sister and I are also in Georgia and try to plan a motocamping trip at least once a year. We are supposed to go to Destin in August (all the details are not planned yet). She has a grandbaby due around the time we were planning to go so we just have to wait and see. we do however get together and camp out in Dahlonega when we have time.

Hey Angel we all need to get together and do some camping! I see that you are all the way in Gainesville but that shouldn't be too much of a barrier. Send me a private message and we can make plans from there. Awesome!

Hi all,

I'm new here and this is my first post. A little about me.

I live out in Las Vegas, do a lot of camping in my little home made trailer. http://www.asolidfoundation.com/dv2007_01a.jpg
I have also done quite a bit of tent and car camping. I run a camp cooking forum where we discuss all kinds of outdoor cooking. My friend and I teach Dutch Oven cooking at various events.

I also ride a Road King and a KLR-650 whenever I get the chance. Here's the rub....I camp and I ride, but I've only motorcycle camped one time and that was down to the Laughlin River run a couple years ago. Doesn't exactly count as MC camping.

I'm getting the itch to head out camping on one of my bikes. I'm thinking that I'll head up to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I always love that place! There's some great camping just outside of the park in the national forest. When I first bought my KLR my intent was to go camping so I bought a backpacking stove and small tent. I've done quite a bit of "minimalist" camping with little more than a sleeping bag, water, tuna in a can, and dehydrated fruit. I have some obligations at work that I have to wrap up so hopefully I'll be able to head out of town by the end of summer.

Oh yeah, here's a link to a little MC trailer I made for a friend of mine. http://www.asolidfoundation.com/mc_trailer.shtml

Welcome to the site, Joanne, thanks for the site. I'll check it at my leisure:)

The North Rim is good, there is good camping all over north AZ in the National Forrests. I have a favorite place by Pine, and another near Heber...

Hi Joanne,

I've read your Desert Dawg web site about a dozen times. I've been thinking about building a similar trailer for a little while.

Hi Joanne:
Welcome to the forum.
Was wondering ... Do you do your own welding? If you do, I'm impressed! P^
I really like the little motorcycle trailer you constructed. Nicely made, and your "desert dog" teardrop trailer is awesome!

Looks like you are a very multi-talented lady.

Hi all!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I appreciate it.

I do have a lot of diverse interests. I have too many things I would like to try and not enough time (or money) to do them. My son is the same way....LOL! He got his first motorcycle this weekend and is SO excited.

The teardrop was the result of wanting to get up off the ground, lack of money to buy something a bit bigger, the desire to see if I could do it, and they are so darn cute. G Wizz, I did my own welding. My cousin taught me many years ago when my dad sponsored his race car. I wanted to "help" (I thought I was at the time) so he taught me how to weld. It's provided to be quite useful throughout my life.

The success of the little motorcycle trailer was what gave me enough confidence to try the camping trailer. I had never done any wood work before so everything was trial and error. Thankfully there is a great forum with very helpful folks that coached me through some of the build challenges.

On to the topic of motorcycle camping, I'm hoping to get everything organized and start heading out once the temperatures start to cool down in the early fall. I have most of the gear, but recently someone stole my MC jacket out of the garage so I'm in the market for a new one. (I can only imagine the thief's face when he realizes that the great leather jacket he stole is a WOMANS! I'm sure he'll look cute in it.)

The jacket was a leather cruiser style jacket, but I think I'll look for more of a touring style jacket & pant combination. I've been hitting the local cycle shops to see what's on the market and within my budget. It looks like the manufacturers are finally starting to manufacture woman's riding gear that isn't just guy's gear in a different color. They still need to learn that women riders aren't all tiny little things hanging on the back of their guy's crotch rocket. Sorry....got a bit off topic.

Anyway, it will be fun to hear about all the adventures that you guys have. Hopefully I'll be able to share a few of my own tales before too long. P^

Thanks again for the welcome!
Joanne

Guy,

Not to distract you from MC camping, but the little tears are a lot of fun! If you want more info, check out http://www.mikenchell.com/forums

To tie this back into MC camping, a number of folks pull small, lightweight tears behind their Harleys, Gold Wings, and Trikes. The trailer has to be built with a keen eye towards weight reduction, but it has been done very successfully.
