Is there an obstruction of Hwy 20 in North Cascades Park? I can't get Google to let me route through it.
I'm also interested in recommendations for campgrounds in Glacier park, in the Kettle Falls area, and Olympic NP area.
Thanks

Are you sure it's open yet? It is often in June when it opens.

Yeah well, maybe that's the case. I'm not used to finding that Google is that good at keeping up with that kind of thing.
You may know that I-40 is closed at downtown Knoxville, and has been for almost two years now. It took google a few months to figure that out and start routing around the closure. But maybe they're better at a regularly scheduled closure.
Thanks, that's probably what's going on. The trip isn't till mid-August. I have plenty of time to figure it out.
BTW, I-40 is scheduled to open on June 12th, ahead of schedule. It'll make my life a little easier.

I haven't lived in that part of the world for better than 10 years, but there is a "Highway 20 Snow removal" website somewhere. It may be that Google has it programed in...

I went across 20 from Sedro-Wooley over to Winthrop two weeks ago. The pass is OPEN! There is snow up at Washington Pass but it's not on the road. The WDOT has plow trucks stationed there in case of slides still.
Just watch out for the thieving wildlife!:D
This picture was taken on June 12, 2007, snow can happen that late in the year. Down the road I was told that the snow you see was from about three day earlier and would have closed the road to a motorcycle. Have a good trip, a beautiful part of the country.

Wow, that's pretty cool.
But, speaking of thieving wildlife - this will be my first time camping in serious bear country. I'm going to have to change some of my habits. I'll definitely be cooking at the campsite so I guess I'll have to invest in a bear bag.

Speaking of bears, my son is presently working as a pilot in Ketchikan, Alaska and he told me that the other night a bear came right up to the back door of his apartment and looked in the window. Eric said that earlier in the evening he only had the screen door closed and was glad the bear did not show up at that time.:D
I have camped at several places that have bears possibly roaming the campsites and I have always found that metal bear boxes were provided in the campgrounds. Both Grand Teton and Glacier had the metal bear boxes to lock your stuff into.

Thanks
My wife and I are camping at the NF Recreation area in Kettle Falls (http://www.recreation.gov/campgroundDetails.do?topTabIndex=CampingSpot&contractCode=NRSO&parkId=74068&areaNameToBook=KETTLE FALLS CAMPGROUND (WA)) 7/7 and 7/8. It looks like a nice semi-primitive campground on the columbia (Lake Roosevelt) We're car camping however as she doesn't ride. It doesn't look like a heavily bear populated area as it's close to town and the river.:o
I'll write a quick review of the campground after we get back. Have a great trip !
