I have a Corbin saddle on my R1150R that I love. The only problem was when my wife rode with me she felt like she was going to fall off of the back. I looked at Corbin backrests and they cost almost $300 delivered. I didn't pay much more than that for the seat! So I made my own.

I used one of the headrests from my VW Golf. The back seat had three and I had taken the center one out the day I bought the car because it blocked my rearward view. Since I had the pad all I needed was an attachment. Corbin uses a square 5/8" ID hole to slide the post in. I had a friend of mine that works in a medal shop get me a short piece of 5/8" OD square tubing. I cut it and bent it to the correct angle and epoxied it into the internal plastic support for the VW headrest. I also removed the headrest's original mounting pegs.

Total cost: $0.00

We did a 60 mile test ride last night and my wife loved it!

Great idea Steve! P^ That may be the way to get the wife on the back of my Strom. After 20 years of riding bikes without a backrest, she put her foot down. After signing the paperwork when I bought my Road King I looked around and she was walking from the parts department with a quick detachable backrest in her hands. :D

My wife loves the Pirate's Lair backrest on my ST-1300. She's small and it provides support and confidence.
