Saint Francisville, LA is a popular Bed and Breakfast town in Southern Louisiana. My wife and I were married here. It is beautiful in the spring when the Azaleas are in full bloom. The town is small and out of the way. Literally. From the north, currently, the most direct route is to get there requires a Ferry Ride. Soon a bridge will be completed and the old St. Francisville Ferry will be decommissioned.

If you miss the Ferry, you will find yourself on a 60 mile detour to get into town.

St. Francisville at a glance. These pics does little justice.

Green Acres is one of the few if not the only camp ground in the area. And prices reflect this. If memory serves, she charges $20 per tent! This, IMHO, is a little outrageous. But for your money you get 47 shaded sites with full hook-ups, tent areas, restrooms, showers, a pavilion with a full kitchen, BBQ pits, laundry facilities, a swimming pool, and a pond. I have never seen the pool in service though. But the shower is GREAT. If you have a packable fishing pole, you can wet a line.

We were forced to get an RV spot. I wanna say it actually worked out cheaper for us. Don't hold me to that though. A buddy paid for all camping and we just gave him some money at the end of the trip. The rocks were terrible to stake in though. And thank goodness for my pad.

Sorry, no pics of the campground. We got there too late... (thanks ferry for closing early) and left in a rush.

Thanks for this review we were looking for a campground in that area and ended up staying at a Bar/Trailer Park. (Not Fun) :D

Joe that's the same Ferry we crossed to and from FL.

Well, that might be the last time you were on that Ferry...

Yup... they are closing it. And you know what, good riddance! I hate to be harsh, but the thing cost us some precious daylight last time. I have been across that thing close to 10 times now and it would be more if it were more reliable. My buddy and I and a whole line of cars waited for that thing 45 minutes last trip. Only to find out it was shut down early. Even earlier than the posted "temporary operating hours" sign.

But don't get me wrong. It is cool history, neat... fun. everybody should ferry their bikes at some point... type deal.

I really would like the Ferry to stay in business, keep and maintain hours/schedule as well as see the new bridge come up. But nobody will wait for a 30 minute turn around if there is a bridge 300 or 400 yards down.

:)

We've been lucky and have always hit it at a good time, even with a long line of cars. I don't think we waited longer than 20 mins. Yeah, I'd prefer a bridge but it's all about the experience and adventure and a pretty cool unique thing during a long day of riding.

Would be nice if there was another way to cross but I suppose the ferry exists because it's such a long detour to get to the other side.... we hit it one time before midnight before they changed the hours.. and they closed at midnight.. LOL Now, they close at 8pm or something I think.

Well the sign says 8 but... that is a "loose 8 o'clock" We got there at 5:45. There were worker's cars parked down by the dock and the boat was on the other side. We had all the reasons in the world to BELIEVE that boat was coming back. Finally a local came up to us and all the cars and said... "Ferry's closed early."

Great.

But yep... a great expereince and one every adv rider needs to do. The Adventure was worth the wait. We caught it the next morning on the way back. It is always unique good fun... When it is reliable!
