Ok... well this thing might actually be a self-inflating seat cushion. I thought it was a pillow and still do, but I can't find a link to it online for y'all. But here goes.

I have tried so many pillows with very little success. They have ranged in cost to just below ridiculous to home made complete failures. Either it is comfy or it does not pack small enough. That has been the dilemma.

Then the other day I was in Academy Sporting Goods and came across this:

Magellan Outdoors Camping Pillow or maybe seat cushion. P^
Price: $6
Pack Size: 6"x3"
Weight: 7 oz
TJ Willy Rating: 4/5

Packed with Sunglasses for reference:

No matter if this is a pillow or seat cushion by name, because it is far and away the best pillow I have used while camping. It is self-inflatable but I usually puff a little more air in it. But because it is inflatable, you can get the support you want from it.

It is padded as well. Imagine your pad but with more room for air inside.

My only con if you will is that it is a shade bit noisy. I only mention this because my buddy - who just paid $80 for a different pillow pointed that out to me. I had not noticed.

It packs small and I give it my good tent-keeping seal of approval with four out of five thumbs up:

P^P^P^P^

Sorry, I could not find a link online for these. I purchased mine at Academy for just under $6.00. If you can't find one in your area, I would be happy to pick one up and ship it to you.

I can't say enough for this little pillow. A good night's sleep after many miles on a motorcycle, for me, is key to a successful second, third, fourth, and more days of riding. This thing saved me on the TAT (the part we did).

Hope this helps!

oooooooooooooooo.

Is there a Magellan's item# on a tag or something? Maybe could find it thru their website, a few searches and I came up dry.

I wish we had that sports store here!

Thanks. Yeah, I found that last night, but that item is not the same one I have. I am going to stop by Academy on the way home and get a pic of it and some more detail. Hopefully the packaging has a number.

Much appreciated. I've been looking for a good inexpensive camp pillow. So far have only found good and expensive or terrible and inexpensive....

I stopped in tonight.

Good news, it is a pillow!

Forgive the crappy cell phone pics.

I don't know if there is still any interest in this item or not, heck, the thread is two years old. Here is the item at Academy Sporting Goods website, available for online ordering:

Sadly, I require a double thickness pillow for my neck problems and shoulder size - I'm having to make a foam rig that will roll up into a stuffsack. I'm using a seat cushion due to the thickness.
A necessary evil, because the OP was right about sleep - if you don't sleep well, your trip is pretty trashed.

I have a Thermarest foam pillow that rolls up into an attached pouch. They come in different sizes, maybe 2 of them together would help?

I have to go by Acadamy this weekend to pickup a new tent for the kiddos. I will have to get one of these and try it. Right now I'm using a Kelty packable pillow and it's just too soft for me.

Wow, I just gave my self-stuffing pillow to the wife, because I rolled up a foam pillow that is shaped like the memory foam pillows but much lighter - and IT WENT INTO A SMALL 6X12 STUFFSACK! Didn't even use all the length either! So now I have a big enuff pillow to fold in half and get the thickness I need.
Sometimes the answer is right in front of us, huh? :o

....the question remains...can I get it OUT of the little sack...

I really like some of the Magellan stuff. Some guys told me one day that I'd dump the Magellan sleep pad I had for some "good" thermarest stuff. I did for a few months then picked up the same model Magellan sleep pad I had before and started sleeping good again lol :D

The thermarest still serves as my backpacking sleep pad because it's lighter.
