Buffalo Springs Lake is an interesting place or maybe it's an odd place? It has a city park feel about it. A city park would not be my first choice to camp but there aren't many options near Lubbock. Buffalo Springs Lake is only 5 miles off the main loop (289) . There are homes in odd places inside the park with some of the camping and picnic tables near them. I was apprehensive about camping here as I heard it was a party spot. It didn't live up to my fears. The grounds were very clean but the bathrooms/ shower could be cleaner. There wasn't a shower curtain but I was able to lock the whole bathroom for privacy. On a positive note the bathrooms/ shower had hot water and flush toilets. Other amenities include a Marina store, Amphitheater, rough golf course, frisbee golf, ATV/Motorcycle trails, hiking trails, fishing etc. There are no designated tent camping spots. You just pick a spot you like. You can ride on the grass right down to the water and set up camp if you like. I'd camp there again if needed.
Here's a few pictures I took (Sun. and Mon. March 2009).
