Hello!
Second post here. I rode my KLR from Kansas City to Asheville, NC last October and the guys on the Tail of the Dragon snapped these pics on the return trip.
I had everything with me for camping down to the 40s. It was my first long distance trip where I camped the whole way, so I naturally brought way more than I needed. I have been thinking of ways to trim down my load all winter.
I'm having a blast looking through this site. P^

I have the feeling I'll be poking around this place a lot more in the months to come. :D

Looking good!
If you think the dragon is cool, it's only 1500 miles to the 666 in Arizona. That's 100 miles of MC road...all located in National Forest so you can camp where ever you wish.

Thanks! They are gutted out military mermite containers. They are aluminum and pretty light weight. My only complaint is that I haven't been able to get them to hold out water perfectly.
I actually just got a set of Pelican 1550 cases that I am going to customize for the bike. I can't decide if I want to use a 1550 for the top case or not.

Welcome, Jay. Your plenty close enuff to attend Moonshine next month. Lots of campers there.
Hmmm, does Moonsine mean anything here? It's big at st-owners.com. <checking> Hmmmm, appears not. It's mentioned in several threads but isn't on the event list.
Anyhoo, Check this: http://moonshine-run.com/Moonshine/. Lots of fun, "non-denominational" (no specific club or bike model, everyone welcome.) The big day is 4-18.
The following week is the Motocampers Hillbilly Roundup in Arkansas (http://www.motocampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1750). A lot closer to you and more intimate.
Either or both?
Looks like there are no current plans for a ST-Owners event that weekend, so I might make it. Would be on the way to CheapSTOC in Fort Davis, Texas.
No need to hi-jack yur welcome, Jay. I'll post the rest of my summer schedule here (http://www.motocampers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=18610#post18610)

I actually have a wedding that my girlfriend is trying to get me to attend competing with a flint hills ride with my Dad and his friends on the 18th. I have been looking at the Hillbilly Roundup though. :D I love Arkansas.
Thanks for the info!

Jay, if you don't mind, could you tell me what bag you have on the seat? Thanks!
That is the Kawasaki tank bag that is made for the KLR. Here is one on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Genuine-Kawasaki-87-06-KLR650-Tank-Bag-Bra_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116Q QhashZitem130289451271QQitemZ130289451271QQptZMoto rcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
It is really conveniently sized and expandable, but not really waterproof at all. I keep stuff in it in gallon ziplocks just in case.

Other end! :D I was wondering about the large red duffle you have on behind you in the Killboy shots. Thanks for the link, it looks like it would work on the Strom.

Oh! Sorry. That is actually some PVC coated nylon duffels that I got at Wal-Mart. They are actually quite nice for $30. You get two on them in the package.
They got rained on pretty heavily on that rip and held out the water. The only complaint I have is that the bottom is a different, lighter material. I'm not sure why they didn't use the PVC on the whole bag.

Thanks Jay, I'll have to check out one of the bigger Wal-Marts next time I'm out and about! I may be getting in touch with you a little later on about some campgrounds near Kansas City if you don't mind.
