Looking for a camping spot in Durango

Hey guys! New to the forum, found it thru ST-owners.com. Can't believe I didn't find this sooner!! Looking forward to browsing the threads. P^

Got a quick questions which is why I posted in this subtopic.

Friend of mine (Honda Sabre rider) are headed to Mesa, AZ next month for a benefit ride (www.rideforryan.com). It's my friend's first long distance ride, so we'll be splitting the trip into two comfortable days, stopping over in Durango. He loves to camp, but has never camped from his bike before. I've been doing it for years so will help him with packing, however I do need some help. Looking for some National Forest access near Durango so that we can camp for free. Of course needs to be accessible by motorcycle (any dirt road that a car can get down is just fine).

Just a few miles north of Durango on 550 is a lake and nice camping.

I think you my very well be right, it's been a few years since I went through there.
