has started or I hope it has. We still get a low 20's mornings here and there, but the roads are clear of sand and debris and they are dry. I shall be out Monday for a short ride. In fact I will be out every chance I get to start getting in shape for the long haul. Yahoo!!

Glad to hear it's turning around for you. We've had a mixed bag the last couple of weeks, 70's one day and then snow and sleet the next. I'll be glad to pack away the cold weather gear till Alaska.

If you're lucky, you won't need your winter warm gear when you travel to Alaska. When we went in "07", it was actually warmer there than it was in Michigan.
Keep your fingers crossed.

It's pretty much always riding season around here.. but, I think I'd rather not ride part of the year and put up with mountains.. LOL
I'm hoping this will be a busy year for me with regards to MotoCamping.

Mid-March up here on the north coast marks the start of semi-regular riding for us. We've had some good rains last week that washed the roads of salt, and the recent weather is nippy in the morning warming to the 40'sF. Heated gear is awesome!
I hope to be motocamping a LOT more this year, too.
Mountains Joe..... that would be cool. I have the Finger Lakes, and the Adirondacks & Catskills a few hours away... but would really like to live in the Smokies.

You can ride all year around here but this weekend has been nasty. Colder, windy, wet and work but next week I will be heading to Mississippi for 3 days of DSing and BSing. :D

It is a mind set. I live in Ohio and ride year round. I left for CA in January and my street was solid ice. Slipped the back wheel once on the way to a salted road and once I got to the cleared streets, it was on to CA. No problem!!!

Well, it was 20 here this morning and the roads were frozen. By this afternoon it will be 40 and MUD season will be upon us. By the middle of the week it will be an "event" just getting in and out with the 4wd truck. People living "on pavement" can surely ride now. A couple years ago I had a storage unit in town and kept the bike down there -- added a month to riding season.

I'm being very optimistic. We usually have more freezing and often snow as late as mother’s day, but for right now, the wild flowers are blooming and I’m riding so all is good.

Well, Steve
We do too. So if we meet up there, maybe we'll cancel each others' black cloud out.:D

Right now, the weather has been great. Yesterday, we were on a ride in the morning and it was cool, but not cold. When you stopped the sun warmed you up real quick. I saw 70 on my backyard thermometer in the afternoon! It suppose to be a little cooler today and forecast for rain on Thursday. Hope that helps.:)

Yes it helps thanks; riding up to the independence area is a favorite day ride for me. If the snow and cold are gone I’ll have to head that way soon. How are the wild flowers?

I can't say for the Independence Area, but here in Bishop, things are starting to bloom, but not really that great. Hope it's not one of those notorious Inyo false springs.:) Check the weather forecast, but I think it will be okay.

Thanks guys, I will plan a ride up there within the next month and hope the flowers are out in force by then. This next trip is to the coast and then I’m off to Arizona after that to see my sons and their families. Life is good as long as it’s lived on a motorcycle.

Sure enough, today, the 22nd, it's snowing here on the mountain. We have cold, snow, wind and bad roads again. I love it up here.

I stand corrected. I still thought it stayed warm on the west coast.

I grew up in San Francisco, six blocks from the ocean beach and the Cliff House. We always wanted to submit a claim to the government because of the fog, never any sunshine. We grew up without any vitamin ‘D’.

Fredric, were you one of those kids who used to push me out of line at Playland? My dad would shoot at Pacific Rod and Gun and my Mom would take us over to playland for the day. Fun place.

Movie? I thought that was a quote from Samuel Clemens, before movies. Looks like I'm wrong about that, tho. (http://www.snopes.com/quotes/twain.asp)

Nah, Mark Twain wrote it, Nick Nolte's girl friend said it in "48 hours".
Huh. I just read your link. My Google quote of the day today is "Coldest winter I ever spent is a summer in San Francisco", attributed to Twain. You aren't the only one that thinks Clemens wrote it.
