well im looking forward to camping very soon. iv camped for years but never moto camped. so needless to say im a little apprehensive about not having a car available at camp site.
i think im going to do a practice camp, if you can call it that, at 29 Dreams motorcycle resort in Vandiver, AL. I go out there alot to eat lunch or just talk to other moto folks. they have a good camping area, bath facilities and restaurant at the lodge.
anyone ever camped there? id like to know how it went.
any advice about what or what not to pack? i dont want to over pack.

Hey cmn,
Practice camping is a good idea. You can even do it in the backyard, but the neighbors will whisper and giggle. Never been to your camp choice, but you have... at least for a visit (it sounds like). Check out the tutorials on this site. They are as good as any I have seen on other sites. As far as over-packing... don't fret about it. YOU WILL! There will also likely be things you forget. Take a notepad and check off what you took, but didn't need/use. Also make notes of what you should have brought.
I use 2 somewhat different set-ups. One for when I'm solo and the other for the times the Red-Headed Irish Princess goes. I'm planning a solo in the next few days and set up everything in the yard. I wanted to count pegs, poles and tie-out lines. I wanted to sit in the camp chair and make sure the mattress and sleeping bag were in good shape. I wanted to check out the camp lights and the Whisperlite. Shoot - I even cooked up a meal I had dehydrated and made sure I had what I needed to eat. Practice is good at the beginning of the experience or just the beginning of a new season.
Did I mention that the neighbors whisper and giggle?:D

cmn1771, go to the site navigation on the home page and get the basic camping checklist. It's a great place to start. You can adjust for your own needs.

Yeah Guy is pretty famous on the ST site. I've yet to meet him but this year looks promising.
When you head out to camp be sure and post something, you might have some locals show up and camp with you, always better to have a few around a camp fire.

im pretty sure there will be other campers there. being there by myself would kinda suck. usually theres a group of V Strom riders that camp there. last time i saw them they were making their way from montgomery, AL to Nashville TN and had stopped in for a one night camp. I rode with them from Vandiver ,AL up to the TN line to see Russell cave and thats where we parted ways.
