Last June my son and I went on a camping trip to Yosemite and when we got to Yosemite we found that the campgrounds were still closed because of the heavy snowfall from the previous winter. So we checked our maps and saw there were Forest Service campgrounds all through that area. We had no problem getting campsites for the next couple of days. We rode the passes north of Yosemite and had a great time, wonderful roads. We rode Rt 108 through Sonora Pass, Rt 4 and Rt 88. Wonderful mountain pass roads. We also camped one night in Death Valley, but left there at dawn to escape the heat.

That's a great area, might hit it in late Aug/early Sep this year depending on what Canada looks like.... Those passes are a ton of fun.

In the picture from the Death Valley campground, note the rocky surface. You had better have some kind of mattress or sleeping pad to survive there.:D

One nice thing about camping in Death Valley is that you don't need to bother with a tent.

Good point, guess it's not gonna rain on you. Are there any animals around? Snakes? That might come out at night to snack on something.

Oddly enough, I don't think I've seen one snake near the campground. Have seen skunks, coons, javelinas, deer but no snakes...

Whats a "javelina?" Isn't it one of the spear thingies they throw in the olympics?

Whats a javilina?

Oh! Still think the spear thing is more dangerous, especially without a tent!

They are pretty harmless in Big Bend

Of course... the deer have known to be fearful of a certain camper (Trailace)

Actually a member of the rat family (really not as good eating as anything in the pig family!)
