I need to visit an ill family member in Lubbock. Are there any good campgrounds nearby?

Sorry I can't help. When we were through there last summer the temps were in the 100+ range so we "camped" at the Motel 5 1/2 (or some other equally memorable place). Might check KOA if you get no other suggestions. They are like "McDonald's", they might not be what you would really like... but you know what to expect ( and it's OK).

There is a KOA on the north side of Lubbock. I stayed there in July of '95 and a tornado touched down north of there. Scared the heck out of me, but it didn't come close.

I second KOA Lubbock, it is on the hi way that takes you to Clovis New Mexico.
I think it is 84. Camp next to the road it is near hi way the other side is near railroad. Good thing is the big trucks are off the road about 11.pm trains run all night.Good clean place and they have cabins with ac and heaters. That country can get really cold at night so have a warm bag. There are no places to eat near by so be prepared. There are some rv parks on the loop in town but I don't know the names or if tents are allows. Check www.Woodalls.com for Lubbock, they will be listed.

I found a place online called Baffalo Springs Lake. I might give it a try. It's been hard finding a tent campground near Lubbock.

My son, who was 4+ years at Texas Tech (Lubbock), says that the Buffalo Springs Lake is the only really good camping spot in the area.
