DATE OF VISIT:

CONDITION:
Very clean.
This campground is on the banks of Toledo Bend Lake, and is a very nice, shady, clean area with a boat ramp. It is a 'no frills' area with running water and two porta-potties, so is not designed for extended stays, unless you bathe in the lake.
It is a self-pay campground, and the fee is a resounding $4.00/night. ($2 if you have a Golden Age Passport card). It is run by the Sabine River Authority, which is the group that is in control of the reservoir.
The entrance to the park is off Texas highway 87, which is a very nice motorcycle road, and can be ridden from Timpson, TX all the way down to Galveston, TX. The area between Center & Newton is especially nice, and you are riding through the area where a great deal of debris from the space shuttle crash was located. The town of Hemphill was very involved in that event, and may have put up a plaque or something.
This park would make a very nice, inexpensive, one night stop-over. There is a gas station/convenience store about 1/2 mile south, and a restaurant with some 'good eats' about 4 miles north on Hwy 87. If you're ever riding & camping in East Texas, or just passing thru, give this a whirl.
