Visited this park September 19-21, 2008. Did not tent camp, but instead took advantage of one of the cabins available at the park. The park and cabin both turned out to be very nice.

Park located at:
225 State Park Road
Homer, La 71040
318-927-2976
877-CAMP-N-LA

Mosquitos were very thick while hiking the trails through the woods, but not too bad in the campground it self. Canoes were available for rental, and we had fun using them for an afternoon.

While we were there, the RV section of the campground was nearly full, about 7 of the 10 cabins appearred to be full, and less than half the tent sites were full.

Nice picnic area, sandy beach for the kids to play in and nice trails for short hikes. The office had a basic map of the trails, and each trail was marked with colored paint on trees to keep you on the right course.

The drive in was made Friday night, leaving New Orleans around 5 pm. Made it to the park well after dark and did not do anything other than shortest route. But the last half hour to 45 minutes were some fun motorcycle roads coming into the park from Ruston, but in the dark, the woods were RIGHT THERE, and so were the critters. So I saved the fun for Sunday on the way out. Explored several roads through the area Sunday and had a blast.

Nearest grocery store was in Homer, about 20 minutes or so from the camp, and was a fairly scenic ride to and from.

Unfortunately, no pics were taken other than family sitting around. Did not know about this website then, but rest assured, my future camping visits will include some photos. Beginning with North Toledo Bend next weekend.

In short, I would recommend this park to all friends and family.

I have camped at this park and an adventure race was hosted here. There are some great mountain bike trails to found here as well. Though us motocampers utilize a different two wheeled mode of transportation! P^
