Hope our fellow MotoCampers who live in the areas that are impacted from the Ice Storm are fairing well?:) Lot of power outages. Not good during cold weather. Ironheadziggy76? Mr. Guy? GulfXray? are you okay?:(

I got more snow than ice here in Ohio. No power outages like OK, TX, MO and IN.

We got a little in the dallas area... not too bad, pretty much like we get once or twice a year. I worked from home...

Sorry, Mac. We forgot you were up in that area too. Hope you are doing okay also.:)Thanks, I took these this morning to show that I probably won't be leaving for my return to CA any time soon. There is 2" of packed snow on top of 1" of ice and the temperature is going to 8 tonight. Salt will not melt ice and snow at that temperature, so I don't know when I'll get some black pavement again. The guessers are saying more snow tonight and tomorrow.

You know what you need? A Ural. Those Canadians are driving, (they call it driving, not riding when a three wheeler is involved?), in the areas like where you live.:p They love it. Get the two wheel drive model.:D Stay warm and safe.:)

Not sure I'm ready to ride a Ural to CA, though I did get a good look at Spicey McHaggis' in Dawson City last year.

Hi All,
Been gone this week, my wife's grandmother passed away last Sunday, so we drove from OK to Cincinnati, OH on Monday, just beating the snow there. And left Thursday morning to head back. It took us almost 2 1/2 hours to get the first 30 miles to the Ohio river and Kentucky. After that the roads weren't to bad the rest of the way home.

Thank you Mac,
In Bethal, we stayed with her aunt a little south of the intersection of OH Hwys 125&133.
We had 6" snow Monday night, then sleet, more snow & sleet. We got out while the getting was good.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Grandma had been in a nursing home for quite a while and it was somewhat expected. The ice storm added a little more drama to the trip for sure. I still think earthquakes on the west coast are scarier.

Guy, sorry to hear about your loss.
I have been iced in for a while, and trying to deal with all the downed trees. We have no power, water, or phone. Cells work sometimes if they don't let the generators run out of gas. I'm at the in-laws checking on them, and they have water and a working phone line. We are hoping to have our power back up by the end of the week if we are lucky. 400,000 homes are still without power here in KY. We are hunkered down eating deer meat and veggies we canned, and are doing fine. We are using our propane fireplace sparingly till we can get some propane delivered. We cut our way out to get some propane for the grill and I took a few pictures that I will get posted after things get back to normal. Talk to you all soon.

Hope you get your power back soon. A few years ago, my brother went without power for 6 weeks after an ice storm here. He wore out 2 generators in that time.
Good luck, Guy

I just came down I 57 and ! 55 in MO and AR and the devastation to the trees along the route was terrible. In some places the limbs were on the guard rails hanging over the shoulder. Many places had been trimmed by crews. I saw literally hundreds of electric linemen crews repairing downed poower lines. This was definately a heck of an ice storm. Hope everyone gets power back soon, as I'm sure with as many crews that are busting butt it shoudn't be much longer. I don't know if these guys work through the night or not, but they were still up in buckets at dusk.

When we have damage like that here, the linemen usualy work 16 hour shifts, 7 days a week till it's done. Yea, "busting butt" is a good description when your dealing with stuff that can kill you in a split second.

I got my phone line back this morning, but woke up to a brisk 42 degrees in the bedroom this morning! Just one more night in the teens and it's supposed to be in the 50's by the weekend so maybe they will get the power on soon. Hopefully I will get some propane delivered soon so I can run the fireplace wide open for awhile instead of just in spurts to keep the pipes from freezing! :p

I have power now! The phone has died again, as well as the trickle of water we had but the water should be back up in 24-48 hours. I finally convinced the wife that we need Hughesnet instead of dial-up so maybe I will have that by next week and I won't have to keep coming to the library! I'll try to get a few pictures up while I'm here.
