It's my old workhorse, and it's treated me well..

I'm kicking around getting away from the soft bags and installing some aluminum panniers. I've got access to a rack and just need to take the plunge and buy bags. A buddy of mine has a 98' and I took these at a campout this summer.. Seemed fitting..:D

Hard bags are great and love having them on my GS. That being said if you fall over their not so good. They can bend themselves and bend your frame. They also have been known to break a few legs. So if you’re planning on do hard dual sporting then stick to the soft bags. Go read a few ride reports about the TAT and you will see that most riders who had hard bags had issue.

Good looking bike Paper! Those woods look like a great place to camp also!

Trailace,
I completely agree. I occasionally ride in stuff that's very rough, and I've got the suspension set to ride at speed (old enduro/Hare scramble guy) and I'd be concerned about riding these with bags attached, where I have no problem riding it like it is.. That said, most of the time we set up camp and store stuff there, and then go riding, so I wouldn't have to have the bags attached..

Ironhead,
This was the end of Point Abbaye, next to the Kewennaw Pennisula in the UP of Michigan. The ride out to the end was great, and the tree was the only thing we couldn't go around. So we cut it out of the way.. It was firmly wedged between trees and couldn't just be lifted out of the way.
Unfortunately, once we got out to the point, the black flies were terrible and wouldn't leave us alone.. They don't care if you have bug spray, either.. We ended up just continuing to ride and wandered into a National forest in Northern WI for the evening... I was really looking forward to primative camping out on the point, too..:(
