Christmas STocking (stalking) is a sort of a Ride to Eat with camping thrown in. For some. Organized and orchestrated by George, this is an annual weekend after Christmas ride. This year we met for lunch in Borego Springs, CA at Calee's Restaurant. 22 for lunch, I think.

5 of us were goofy enough to camp into the face of temps in the 30's. Mac and Carol at the Anza-Borego Tamirisk Campground while George, Gunner and I were 5 miles off the California 86 on S22. If that sounds primitive, it is:) An almost road ran directly to our camp site about 400 yards from the pavement.

We pulled in about 4:00 pm local time, set up camp and went to Salton City and Travertine Restaurant for dinner. Astoundingly good diner. Baby back ribs and Crab Bisque for me. The BBQ sauce may have been a bit over whelming, but the meat and the beans and the slaw and the soup were absolutely wonderful. Yes, I'll go back!

Coffee at camp then off to Borego Springs and Kelly's restaurant (back side of "The Mall") and a good solid breakfast. Mac and Carol joined us there. I didn't have the biscuits and gravy, but those that did raved.

On to Julian via where it had warmed up to 34º by 11:00 am. Back to Borego Springs via Banner Grade and California 78 then to S2 and Felix pass. It would have been a really good ride if it were 15º warmer:)

I'll post a couple of 'teaser' pictures, the rest are available at my Webshots site below. Borego Springs Sculptures are scattered about the desert out side of town. Wonderful. Desert STocking '08 is the other...

Wow, you people in CA & AZ sure do have a lot of fun. I'm jealous. We don't have that kind of scenery down here in the swamps.

Sounds like a really serious RTE & E & E & E. LOL.

28º when Carole and I rolled out of the sleeping bags Saturday morning. We were a bit higher in elevation than Tom, George, and Gunnar. Carole has a bunch of pics posted on st-owners, maybe one of the wizards here can post a link. We had a great time dispite the chilly temperatures.

Here's my favorite shot from the camp on Saturday morning, penny stoves perking while the Coleman sets there cold. Took two fills to perk the 60 ounce coffee pot but it got the job done. Water in the pot on the left boiled in only a couple minutes (for Gunnar's tea.)

The rest of my shots are in post #116 in the link Guy shows above.

So. My Coleman single assumed the position this weekend. Might take a little work and some parts.

The best deal about that picture to me is the table that I bought from Marty. It's a great thing to have in the rough country. This was my first test of it! Wonderful.

I got mine years ago at K-Mart.

Tom,

Looking at you bike pack, I think your gear load has grown to twice it's original size. :D
