Really? It's one of the prettiest places I have ridden. "The Land Between the Lakes" area is nothing short of spectacular. Great rural roads (buy a BIG map so they show up) and friendly folks...
Cumon Joe. You know I wouldn't steer you wrong...I mean except for that one or maybe two times:D:D
It really is a cool place. I spent a night in a nice motel in Clarksburg TN, right outside Fort Campbell KY for $35.00 IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER!

Here is a tip for you concerning your new camper. It's a tip for all trailer pullers really.
Before you load your trailer and start using it, you may want to glue lightweight carpeting to the inside walls of the cargo area.
If your don't, over time as you travel, things WILL rub the walls, and the next thing you know, you will have holes in things .. like your sleeping bag, or your air mattress for instance. (Ask me how I know)

I trust you?????? LOL
Sure seems like I've been to NC a few times, you would have thought I'd have crossed the mountains and headed a little further north..
I still have a few years before I've ridden every part of the U.S. .. so there is time..

I used the 3M Hi-Strength spray adhesive when I put the carpet in mine, I found it at Wally World, be sure to get the HI STRENGTH spray, as they do make a medium also, but I don't think it would be as strong.
Just follow the instructions on the can by spraying it on both the back side of the carpet and on the wall surface, and let it set up for a couple of minutes then stick the carpet where you want it.
You won't regret putting in the carpet. It sure saves ware and tare on everything you pack in your trailer.
One thing though, Don't glue carpet to the floor of your cargo area, just lay it in there, it won't go anywhere. That way, when you get done camping, you can unload the trailer, pick up the carpet and just shake the dirt out.
This is how I did mine ... I unbolted the top at the two hinges, being carefull not to drop any of the plastic hinge spacer washers, and at the gas shocks, then, with the help of a friend, picked the top up and removed it altogether. This gave me an open area all the way around the trailer to work. When done, just put the top back over the cargo area, and bolt it back together.
Makes for an easy installation this way.

Postman. You're welcome.
Here's a couple more tips I'd like to pass on to you.
Check your wheel bearings for the proper amount of grease. I found that one of my wheel hubs had very little grease in the bearings. I'm not saying they are all like this, but it sure wouldn't hurt to check, and it would only take you a few minuets to do.
I'm not faulting Aspen, as they only install the preassembled axles to the trailers, but someone at Dexter was asleep at the grease pot.
Also check for loose bolts. On my maiden trip, I didn't like the way the trailer pulled, it kinda felt like it was chucking back and forth. When we got to our first gas stop, I did some checking, and found the bolts holding the hitch coupler to the trailer tongue loose.
I shoulda checked all the fasteners before we took off, but I was anxious to try it out. Me bad.

If you love Kentucky & Tennessee, you should come on up to Michigan. Especially northern michigan, and the U.P.
The area up around Porcupine Mtns., Pictured Rocks, and Copper Harbor is just gorgeous.

Actually, G Wizz, we are planning a trip around Lake Michigan this next summer.
Plans include stops at Oshkosh Air Museum, Sault Ste. Marie, Mackinac Island, Traverse City, and Holland.
Should be a good time!

I'm sure you will enjoy your trip.
Might I suggest: From Escanaba take US 2 east to St Igance, it's a very scenic highway overlooking Lake Michigan. Then, once you cross the "Big Mac" and drop down into the lower peninsula, just south and west of Mackinaw City, is a MUST road to ride, it's 119 from Cross Village to Harbor Springs, along the west coast of the state. The road is called the "Tunnel of Trees". It's a narrow two lane paved road weaving through the forest close to Lake Michigan. The view of the lake through the trees is awesome. You'll love it.
Look on a Michigan State map, you can find it.
Will you be camping? If you are, there is a really great motorcycle campground just south of Traverse City on M37, then west on highway 31, called Cyclemoore Campground.
$6.00 will get you a campsite for a night, if you are on a bike.
Steve & Shirley Moore own it and are really great hosts. There is a motorcycle repair shop and parts/gift store there too. A word of caution: The hot water in the restrooms/showers is really HOT!
Let me know when you will be near Holland, I live only 50 miles from there, if I'm free, I could maybe meet you to say hi.

Ahhh, Oshkosh. I love that place. I've never been there on a bike but I went to Air Venture in my Luscombe a few years ago.
I think next time it would fun to go on a bike. HMMMMM trip idea!

If you go to Oshkosh on bikes, as you get north of Milwaukee, look for the Kettle Moraine roads. There is an "official" trail to follow. Nice biking area.
I will be in Southern Ohio / Northern Kentucky in a couple of weeks. Not on bike, but visiting my wife's family. Here in Wisconsin we tell Polish Jokes. They tell the same jokes there and call them Kentuckians. I found that interesting the first time I heard them. I guess you can tell that her family is on the north side of the OhiO river. About 2,000 feet north of it. ;)

Almost forgot. If you are into air planes, here in Kalamazoo, they have the "Air Zoo" it's a large airplane museum with all kinds of planes, old and new.
They also have a space shuttle simulator there, and they have actual Air Force fighter plane flight training simulators that will give you a rush.
It's a nice place to spend a day. It's located at the Kalamazoo airport, on the west side.

G Wizz I spent two weeks in Grayling, Michigan many years ago while I was in the service. I did get to check out Mackinac Island while I was there, and went up into Canada for a day. If I remember correctly Grayling only had one bar/club that was in a barn or a barn shaped building.

Have you considered coming back up for a visit? Grayling is still here, but I think you'd be supprised how much it's changed. The Army base there has pretty much dried up.

I would love to head back up there sometime now that the wife isn't working. Do they still not have cars on the island? When I was there back in the 80's my uncle and I rented a bicycle and road around the island. Very fun not having to worry about getting mowed down by someone in a car while riding along! We took a drive up into Canada, and when we got to the border they just asked us a couple of questions and waived us through. On the way back we got selected to pull into the garage and get checked out. We had borrowed our buddy the Supply Sarge's car and had an interesting time explaining all of the Gas Masks in the trunk. When we told him about it, he laughed and said, "I don't guess they found the .44 Mag under the spare tire did they?" That would have been very interesting! :p

Yep, Still no cars on the island, never have been, never will be.
It's bicycles or horse and carrage, just like th old days.
Getting into Canada would still be easy to do, but it's a long wait to get back into the states. They check most everyone coming through these days.
Last time we came through, it was a three hour wait in line, just to reach the check station. We were on bikes and it was hot out. That got old in a hurry.

GW, I'll bet it did! On our trip to Alaska and across Canada last summer we crossed into Canada and back into the US 4 times. We were on an ST with a sidecar that has a huge trunk and we were pulling a trailer. Our longest wait was in August coming into Maine. We crossed around 10 or 10:30am and the wait was less than 10 minutes. Never at any crossing did anyone want to look in our trunks or the trailer! I guess 2 old farts looked like they wouldn't even know what dope or explosives looked like! As you can see from the picture of the rig below we could have hidden a lot of stuff!:usflag1:
