This thing is amazing.
Funny story - I wanted a Downmat 9 DLX because Trailace said the one he
recently got was the best thing since sliced bread. Well, I hinted for an early
Christmas present and viola.. I got this in the mail the day I left for Florida on
a trip. So, I took it out of the box and threw it in the bike without looking at it.
Later I noticed it was NOT a DownMat but something called a SynMat sent
by mistake. I knewa cold front was moving in on the trip back so I was
somewhat anxious as to if this thing was going to work. It does and works
very well.
One of the best parts about this is it has an integrated pump so I no longer
need to bring my rechargeable air compressor with me. The pump takes just
a few compressions for it to fully inflate the mattress - just under a min is what
I was seeing.
Also, this thing is typically $50 cheaper than the DownMat. It packs down to
about 10"x6" and on a 34 degree night I never felt any cold from the ground.
I actually felt more cold on top of me pushing down on the sleeping bag which
I'd never noticed before.
This thing rocks!!!! I'll update this later with some comparisons of other
mattresses I have but it's worth the ~$100 in my opinion.
Here's a youtube vid I found of someone demonstrating the pump:

Hey Mellow. I have the Exped Downmat 7DLX and I too love my Exped. I had been wondering if the SynthMat was as good as the downmat and by the sounds of you I believe that it is. Who knows I may end up getting one of those in the 20" size because I'm considering on getting a Big Agnes bag and as you know the sleeves only fit a 20" wide mat. Anyway back to the 7DLX. I have the cover chair kit thing that goes with their mats and it is great to be able to sit up and lounge in the tent. I keep the cover on it all of the time and pack the whole thing minus the 2 poles that come with the chair kit into the mats stuff bag. It fits very well if you take the time to get all of the air out and it still packs to around the size of a supersized gallon of milk. For the 2 rods/poles that go to the chair I just pack those separate in my waterproof duffle from Overboard along with all of my other tent stuff, cookware etc. Anyway, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those that are wondering what mat to buy!

The only time you really need the added warmth of the downmat over the synmat is if you're deep into the arctic. The synmat 9dlx offers you a 6.0 R rating which is more than twice that of the prolites that mountain climbers going up everest used for ages. Save yourself the nearly $80 and go for the synmat over the downmat. Plus the synmats all uses integrated pumps, which only the newest 2009 downmats offer.

Considering I'm not 1/2 the man those everest climbers are, it balances out.. LOL

No ya don't, you smooth talking rascal. I got a Seyvlor mattress based on your recommendation. Went to pack for a camping trip & found that it wouldn't fit in my bags so had to buy a new mattress. THEN, I found out that you had sold yours for some reason. Luckily someone stepped up to buy mine so it wasn't a total loss.....
Nope, not gonna fall for this one again, nossir...not even...no way, nohow....Ummmm, what was that thing again????

Ha, nice try!!! Actually, when that one didn't fit, REI just happened to have a sale price on the Big Agnes so I got an air core.
Been very happy with it - So There... P^

Both seem to be pretty close in design so you should be more than happy with that one. Being able to slide it in the bottom of the sleeping bag is cool (pun intended) and the exped will fit too.

I'm really happy with mine. I used it on this year's WeSTOC trip. Worked really well!

Are these pads good in warmer weather too, or just in cold?

I bought a SynMat 9 Pump DLX a couple of weeks ago and tried it out on a campout this weekend. It takes a little practise to get used to the built in pump, but after you figure it out it's pretty quick. And this thing is COMFORTABLE. It'll be with me on trips from now on.
