To those who have ridden with me before, I apologize for how loud my bike was. After about a year with an aftermarket pipe, I decided the meager power gains were not worth the noise. The final straw was at the Oklahoma Campout, while riding with my daughter, I couldn't hear her talking to me even though we were only going 30 to 40 MPH. So as soon as I got home I ordered the parts I needed to put the stock pipe back on (just a few gaskets). Along with quiet I should get about a 15% increase in mileage also.

So Rick, Chief, and GulfxRay, I'm sorry, it won't happen again.

Jeeze Guy...you're starting to sound like Eyore...apologizing for imagined offenses!
I heard snoring in that campground louder than your pipes!

That snoring was probably coming from me too.:p And you didn't ride behind me either.;)

But really, it was more I was tired of it than anything else. The better mileage will be nice too.

P.S. I'm having trouble conveying sarcasm.

Guy,

it wasn't that bad to me, but I can imagine you wouldn't want to miss what your daughter was saying, soooo... Good choice amigo!

I have the stock pipe on my DRZ and have been toying with the idea of an aftermarket setup but I don't want to increase the noise level since I ride trails that are dangerously close to being closed to motorcycles as it is.
I have heard that Muzzy makes a good quiet exhaust for dual purpose bikes. Not sure it's worth the money though for a few pounds and a few horses.
It was helpful to hear your perspective on it Guy.

And thats all it was, a few pounds, a few horses, and loud. Even after repacking it twice in a year, it just seemed to get louder. Maybe it was just getting on my nerves. But to me loud pipes are just loud. It was nice, after I was done, I rode around my property, when I stopped I could hear birds without shutting off the bike. No way before.

Huh, what did you say? I've been thinking of maybe adding a slip-on muffler on the Wee for weight savings if I could find one that is as quiet as the stocker that's on it. I have a Vance and Hines exhaust on my Road King and it is quiet, it just seems to have a deeper tone. My Sportster that I ride out in the country is a different story, it will set off a car alarm if I'm really twisting it.

Anyone ever run a Scorpion slip-on? I've been told they are very quiet, but I've never heard one.
