I've always been jealous of Trailace's little parking light on the GS. I have two small bulbs like that on the ST but didn't feel like messing with the wiring for fear of screwing something up and they aren't very easy to get to...

So...

I think.... my approach will be the following:

Buy 2 5-LED step lights:

Mount one under the headlight... about 2 inches from the center/tip. Mount the other on the rear of the bike to the CB antenna bracket.

Then, get 2 waterproof switches, one for front and one for rear light, mount in right fairing pocket:

Then, hook them both into the 'switched on' power so I don't accidentally leave them on, not sure about this yet, might still hook them as hot all the time.

This way, I can turn one or the other, or both on depending on where I pull into a campground area to illuminate only that area.

Anyway, that's my current direction...

I've ordered the lights/switches.. I'll put something together when I get them.

I posted over at ST-Owners and thought that someone here might be interested in this because so many dual sports don't have much battery power and with these using LEDs, might be something you'd be interested in.

That's pretty ingenious.
I would have never thought of putting lights like that on a bike.
I can think of lots of instances where that could come in handy.

Joe you have me thinking. Under the hood of my truck is a small work light that has a small crank handle that winds up the cord and has a simple on and off lever. The cord is long enough to reach almost to the rear of my long bed truck. I'm thinking it would fit under the seat of my Wee. Sounds like I will have to take a trip to the salvage yard.

Joe, where did you find your waterproof switches? I have been looking for a small waterproof push button switch for my driving lights. Thanks in advance...

Eric, here ya go, in the past I had one of these I'd hooked to a garage door opener:

Here's what I came up with. It looks like it will serve my purpose very well.
If the LEDs don't last I'll buy a pair of amber hyperlite turn signals and use those.

The switches are always hot and I just used some JB Qwik to attach a bracket
to the inside right fairing pocket.

I left them both on overnight and the bike started right up this morning.

Looks good to bad you can't use just one switch to work them both. :D

Joe, when I first read this thread I thought you had lost your last marble.

Now I think it's pretty darn cool, and might need one for myself. That's a nice project, good for you!

One of those LEDs could go right under the headlight on my DR. Hummmm.

I got them here:
http://www.ridethelite.com

BUT, they are plastic and cheap feeling... I would consider a pair of amber turn signal hyperlites or even these:
