Ok, here is my attemp at writing a review about this French Coffee Press I purchased from REI. First I must say, dealing with REI is just wonderful, this is probably the fith time ordering from them online and needless to say their service is wonderful. Now, let's talk about the coffee press. You have to understand that I'm a coffee drinker and the thought of my Alaska trip coming up in July had me looking around at a solution. Thus the Rustek X-Press coffee press. It was delivered yesterday on time via the big brown truck. Steve my driver is here everyday dropping off a trip supply or something for my business and should probably move in. Upon opening the box I find a beautifull stainless steel pot that holds the press, cover, and handle inside with room for coffe and supplies to be stored also. Instructions and assembly are straight forward and simple. Making coffee is even simpler which makes my life before coffee in the morning real nice. Boil water add coffee press/steep let sit a couple of minutes and enjoy.

Pros:
Perfect size
Well made
Easy clean up

Cons:

No mesh carry dittie bag (no big problem though)

That is one fine looking unit. Mine isn't quite ready to retire yet (though it is old enough to vote), but when it is....

Much lower tech, but still faithful...

Good review John, my wife is holding my REI membership card hostage! Rural King was having a 20% off bucket sale today and I scored a Tex Sport fleece sleeping bag. For $7.00 I can use it for a bag liner if nothing else.

Thanks Steve. I got a Big Agnes Horse Thief 35 degree down bag for the trip. I'm pretty sure that will be good enough for all types of temperature ranges we'll be in. I promised the wife that I won't buy anything else till after the holidays. I really don't need anything else.

I'm still trying to figure out a few things as far as cold weather gear. I was looking at Firstgear's Thermo 1-piece Suit for the cold and wet weather. So much of the trip is going to be hot weather until we get far north I don't know if it would be worth the space of packing it. I think it would be nice to have this winter for riding instead of me looking like the camo Michelin Man! :p I drilled a hole for my 12V socket but that's about as far as it got. My truck has anti-freeze pouring out of the rear of the intake manifold gasket, so I've got that to fix this week. Add to that, I have to put a heater control in the wife's car this week also. I'm REALLY beginning to hate my four wheel vehicles. :p

John,
I ordered one of those from REI earlier this year for my California trip. I had to send it back because the sleeve that holds the screen down was stripped. REI made good and sent me another one. It lasted two days before the same thing happened.
Good luck with yours!

Not what I wanted to hear Norman. But thanks anyway. I'll use it more often to keep testing it. If the same thing happens then it'll go back for something else.
